[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This works on clearing the tank but not the items or glass. I waited 3 days and added more. I didnt see an impact on the fake plants and rock but the water itself was clear. The filter was definitely dirty. So I know it cleared some out. I like that it is safe for my fish and I dont need to remove them to add it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] API Algaefix worked to kill the green algae in my beta tank. I was having a really hard time keeping it off my plants and rock caves, but this did the trick. Others have said it killed their fish, but my beta seems more active since using it. Product definitely cut down on clean up and made the water crystal clear.. it was akso very inexpensive. I would keep this product for future algae problems.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This really helped cut down the algae growth in our betta tank and it was easy to use. No harsh smell and no oily residue seen in the water. The water stayed clear for a longer period of time.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not sure I could tell a difference but it seemed to keep the tank clean. Only needed a little bit so it will last a long time. Used in betta tank that was fairly clean to begin with.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This algaefix was highly effective and fast acting, I never seen our tank so clean. You have to follow the instructions on the packaging exactly, I have read people fish died when they didn’t not follow the instructions. The concentration and quantity is perfect literally my fish tank is so clear now. Easy storing under our fish tank in the draw. Highly recommended!

Works to an extent

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve done this twice now and the picture shows the before and after of the 2nd time I’ve tried using this product in my tank. The first time I ended up having to drain all the water with a 100% water change. The second time I only did a 50% water change with 1ml of the drops in my 10 gallon tank. As you can see it cleared the water up some but not completely. A 4oz bottle is all you’d really need if your tank is going through an algae bloom since you only need a little for it to work. Not a bad product for the price.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free in exchange for my opinion. The API AlgaeFix has been a really helpful addition to keeping my fish tank looking clean and clear. It’s easy to use, and after just a few treatments I noticed a visible reduction in algae buildup. I like that it works quickly without a lot of hassle, especially for a smaller tank. It’s a simple solution that makes a noticeable difference in keeping the aquarium looking fresh.

Questions

1 - 10 of 43 Questions

Will this product help kill Blue Green Algae (BGA) and is it recommended to increase aeration after use in a planted tank?

is this product safe for nerite, mystery, and rabbit snails?

    1. According to the label info it is safe for freshwater fish if used as directed, but do not overdose. DO NOT USE ON freshwater crustaceans including shrimp, crabs, or lobsters. I personally have never had any snails in my tanks, but I believe they actually feed on algae while helping to clean it from the tank. It's never a bad idea to do research on water requirements for snails before adding them or chemicals to a tank!

Can I use this in a tank with live plants?

    1. Yes, Algaefix can be used with live plants.

Hello. Is this product safe to use in a tank with a red eared slider?

    1. Yes, this is able to be used in aquariums or ponds containing red eared sliders.

is this product safe in a saltwater aquarium with several hermit crabs and a snail?

    1. Yes, this is ok to use with saltwater crustaceans. This product is not safe for freshwater crustaceans.

does this work on brown algae (diatoms)? any remedies you care to pass on that are effective, yet non-toxic to my 11-year old turtle ("mr. turtle") would be appreciated...thx!

Can I use this to kill algae growing on moss?

I have a 2 gallon tank. What amount should i use?

        1. Use an eye dropper and do no more than 2-3 drops.

Is API Algaefix safe to use for aquatic turtles?

        1. Yes, as long as it's dosed correctly.

I added less than 1 ml of the Algaefix to my water with a betta and two snails, 24 hours after adding both of my snails were dead. They were perfectly fine until adding this product. Curious to why?

        1. Directions specifically say NOT to use if you have snails or other crustaceans like shrimp, lobster and I would think crawfish.
