Senior and less active dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level. The Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food to be fed on a daily basis. Individual pets may require more or less food. Always provide plenty of fresh water. If you have any dietary concerns, please consult with your veterinarian.

I am picky about what food I feed my dog. I want good ingredients and nothing imported from other countries. This food though more expensive is exactly what I choose to feed my Riley.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good Senior Dog food

This food is very good for my 12 year old Lab. However, Petco stopped carrying it in the store! I can't do curbside pick-up, have to order on line for delivery which entails excess cardboard packaging. That might not bother some people, but I hate the thought of trees being destroyed. Why can't Petco keep this brand in the stores?

Yes, I recommend this product.

My dog is getting picky in her older age. She loved this flavor for a good long while, and would eat it without any mix-ins. Then I had to start adding wet food to get her to go for it. We've moved on to another flavor, but what I like about Canidae is that most of their line is for all stages of life. You just have to play with the portion size depending on the dog's size, age, and level of activity. I've been buying Canidae exclusively for over about 2 years now because I appreciate the higher quality ingredients and options for different dietary needs. Since my dog is diabetic, one thing we avoid is potato, although sweet potato seems to be ok. There are a few without potato altogether.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Saved our girl

Our dog ...a 13 year old 23 lb Lhasa Apso....was saved by this food. She had been an Ian’s mini chunk small breed in the green bag. $17-20 for a 17 lb bag...but it was making her bowls loose...to worse : P and vomiting. I don’t know if it’s what in that food OR quality control. But the Canidae solved all of her issues. Pricey...but glad to pay it if she’s well, happy and thriving. Bonus...not cleaning the turn in the back yard constantly. Aren’t we all happier when our plumbing is in working order!?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good results

My dogs love this food, and it's much better for their health than a number of other brands out there. Tufts University has a list of which brands are good for your dogs and which ones cause heart disease, and this one is considered better for them. One of our dogs just had her physical, and she has lost 1 1/2 pounds over the course of the year without feeling deprived. The only change we've made was to Canidae. She's a 13 year-old Corgi mix and has some back issues, so weight control is crucial to her quality of life.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

What is considered a senior age for dogs to switch from adult dog food to senior for a yellow lab retriever? There are no ages / growth charts listed on Canidae bags of dry dog food.

  1. I think it all depends on the activity level of your dog. I switched our dogs around 8 years old since they were not very active, taking shorter walks and gaining weight.

What is the phosphorus content of the senior chicken food?

Would like to try this brand. Our pet has skin allergies. Not sure of the wheat free though due to recent news about heart problems. should I be concerned?

    1. Rest assured that the health of your pets (and our own) is our highest priority. The FDA is investigating a possible link between diet and canine heart disease which may be caused by a lack of taurine. Our products are formulated by a board certified veterinarian, and real meat or meat meal is the first ingredient in EVERY formula, which provides naturally occurring taurine. As with all important decisions regarding your pet, we advise doing your own research. Here is a helpful link to an article from the FDA to help you make your decision: https://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/ResourcesforYou/AnimalHealthLiteracy/ucm616279.htm If you prefer to feed your pet a diet with healthy grains, we recommend checking out our All Life Stages formulas. https://www.canidae.com/dog-food/products/canidae-all-life-stages-dry-formula/ Please contact us at 800-398-1600 ext 0 so we can assist you choosing a formula to fit your dogs needs. Thank you!

This is suddenly not the same as what I have always ordered (last order very recently). Name and packaging differ (packaging had a beautiful meadow with a little bulldog). What happened to the Canidae Grain Free Pure Meadow Senior Formula?

    1. I have 4 Dobermans on the new formula and they acclimate as well with it as the old formula. Dobes are known for sensitive stomachs. These outfits change packaging to corral more customers. Somehow they believe certain color combinations are more attractive to buyers.

What is the size of these toys?

    1. Thank you for your question. The Fliprageous dog toys are 11 inches long.

Where is Canidae Pure Dry Dog food made?

    1. When you check it out online, it says they are located in Brownwood, Texas, and that Canidae is "proudly made in the USA" .... Hope that helps.
