Beware now contains Chicken!!!!

Grace

I have been feeding my dogs Instinct for atleast 10 years now. My Vet said my dogs have allergies to chicken to put them on Lamb. After a lot of research i decided to go with Instinct, they had no recalls, no chicken bi products and my dogs did great. My pug and bulldog have refused to eat their food for a while now didn’t think much of it just thought they were slowing down. My pug has now been itching non stop and having gastrointestinal issues couldn’t figure out why until I realized the recipe has been changed! The vet even asked if I’ve changed anything! The bag that came seriously said “New Look Same Recipe.” Never been so angry! The price has gone from $57 when I first started buying it to now $89. Disgusting practice for your loyal customers! When I buy lamb I don’t want chicken!

No, I do not recommend this product.

NEW RECIPE WITHOUT TELLING CUSTOMER

Recipe change without an update or warning!!! Second ingredient was Menhaden Fish and now it’s Chicken Meal. I selected this food years ago because it’s one of the only recipes that don’t have chicken. My dog has a chicken allergy. Immediately broke out into hives. Glad i checked after opening the bag and only giving 2 meals. Horrible on the companies part to not give any heads up to anyone.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Instinct & Petco tried to kill my dog!

**WARNING: INGREDIENTS CHANGED TO INCLUDE CHICKEN WITHOUT UPDATE, DESPITE "SAME GREAT RECIPE" ADVERTISEMENT** My dog has a severe chicken allergy, so we explicitly shop for kibble that does not include chicken or egg ingredients. Historically this has included this kibble, which as of this review (Jan 8th, 2026). The formula has been updated without notice since at least Dec. 20th, 2025, yet the web STILL shows a formula with no chicken ingredients. When we took the dog, suffering severe intestinal problems, to they vet they were not surprised, apparently Instinct has a habit of changing formula without notice. 0/10 - will never buy from Instinct again and will advise anyone with sensitive pets to avoid all Instinct products.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Have been feeding my dog instinct for years. Neither my dog or I are too happy with the new recipe, especially at the premium price point. Will be switching to another brand

My large breed adult dog was put on this a few mths ago and is thriving! He has a chicken allergy and was is super particular about food, but since switching, he looks for his food and has gained 11 lbs! Before I was lucky if I could get him to eat every other day. Now its twice and day and he still wants more!

Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

Is this appropriate for small dog breeds? (I know there's a grain-free version, but I'm worried about grain-free diets now.)

  1. Hi there! Yes, our Be Natural recipes are also suitable for small breed dogs as well. :) Thanks!

Would this food be a good fit for a Rottweiler puppy? I know that a big issue with certain all life stages food is excess calcium, what is the range found in this food? Thank you!

  1. Our Raw Boost Whole Grain Lamb & Oatmeal Recipe has an average of 1.96% Calcium As Fed. For a puppy that is expected to exceed 70lbs when fully grown, we recommend our Raw Boost Large Breed Puppy Chicken recipe.

How much freeze dried raw content is in the bag?

  1. Hi There! The freeze-dried raw component in this recipe is minimal overall. We make our own freeze dried raw coating. We first freeze our raw recipes and then it is freeze dried (to remove the moisture naturally found in food). The freeze-dried raw is then ground into a powder. After our kibble is made, we tumble the kibble with a topical oil and the freeze dried raw which allows it to stick. This tumbling is done after the kibble is cooked, so the coating is still raw. Thanks!

I want to feed my dog this lamb whole grain raw boost food, but it was out of stock. Will instinct increase production so I can start my dog on this food without worrying of shortages?

  1. Hi There! Keeping your pet’s food stocked is a top priority for us. We work with our suppliers, vendors, customer and distributor partners in order to ensure you can find your pet’s food. Thanks!

Taurine content?? Taurine is essential for dogs health.

  1. Hi There! The taurine content in our Raw Boost Whole Grain Lamb recipe is 0.22%. Thanks!
