Contains fish, WHY the change?!

Disappointed Cat Owner

There are so few options out there that are good quality and without fish. I have a cat with a fish sensitivity, I was so excited to try this food because most sites have the old formula listed instead of the new. I am heartbroken that I cannot switch my cats to this food because they decided to throw fish into the mix. There are literally no other options for people trying to do good by their cats with sensitivities. I don't want legumes, which your limited ingredient diet and all other LIDs have peas or other legumes. I don't want corn, wheat or soy. My cat cannot have fish. This was the only food on the market that hit every mark and you ruined it, WHY?

I feed this to my ferrets.... I was told to use this with a few other foods together to make what is called Voopies for my ferrets. Its basicallya special diet or snack for them daily to make sure they get everything they need. Now I find you changed your recipe???!?!?!? Adding fish to it?!?!?! No!! No!! NO!!! not good!!! Now I have to find something else to add to there Voopies thats chicken only with no grain:( PLUS I will need to alert the rest of the ferrer community of this. Now I also know why my elder ferret has been turning his little nose up to it.. UGH!!!!!! He has health issues all ready and this was helping him. Why did you have to change it???? There was no reason to I can tell from the other comments no one wanted this. You honestly need to change the name its not chicken anymore there's fish!!!Maybe Oxbow has a all chicken food....

You should change back to the old formula

Catttt

I see a lot upset cat owners here. I fed my cats this food years ago and the price has been non stop increasing. I feed them Dr. Elsey’s chicken kibbles right now but with 6 cats I want to find something a little more affordable. So I start thinking about to switch to this food and then seeing all these bad reviews. I think for this price you should take people’s opinions and change back to the old good recipes. It was considered a decent food, please don’t ruin it. And before you bring back the old recipe, I cannot not switch to my cats to instinct.

Every cat I've had loves this food and eats it all in one sitting. I've tried mixing with other less expensive foods and they will eat around them. Plus they don't use the litter as much. One stray had bad skin and loss of muscle mass. One week in this and he is a new cat.

Horrible please do not buy this food until the company goes back to the original ingredients. Many of us have bought this food because od the wonderful reviews we read on blogs but please know they have changed the ingredients and added a cheap filler pollock. If you read newer reviews on sites you will see many complaints that this food is causing diarrhea, vomitting and skin allergies due to the freeze dried pollock as a coating. I will not buy a single thing from this company until they stop doing this.

Great, high protein cat food

Shadowswhy

After finding out one of my cats was diabetic I was frantic to find a high protein cat food that compared to the extremely expensive prescription foods. I’m pleased to announce that Instinct high protein is 1% higher in carbs than RC Glycobalance. This is a win, considering the price difference. i did switch all of my cats to it and they’re all pleased with it.

Why would you secretly change the formula

So deceitful. My cat has been on this food for 5 years only to have it changed. She doesn’t like fish. Now I have to find something she will eat that also isn’t junk food. For shame.

Questions

1 - 9 of 9 Questions

Why was the size and shape of the kibble changed?

  1. Hello! The kibble size can vary from batch to batch, and even within the same batch. The operators are constantly needing to adjust the machinery to try and keep a consistent size during a production run. We try our best to maintain a consistent size, however, if the kibble falls within the allowed range, it will still be acceptable. Sometimes it may fall on the large end or the small end of the spectrum. Our target size for the cat kibble is .25cm in diameter. The target shape is a flat disc. If you ever have any concerns, please reach out to cservice@instinctpetfood.com.

How much Vitamin A is in this product? I see it listed in the Ingredients but not in the Guaranteed Analysis... Why is it missing from the label?

  1. Hi there! There is 56529.67 IU/kg on a Dry Matter Basis in this food.

Why is the Instinct Ultimate Protein Grain-Free Cage-Free Chicken Recipe Freeze-Dried Raw Coated Dry Cat Food not available?

  1. Our Ultimate Protein cat kibble has not been discontinued, but we are temporarily out of stock. Unfortunately, like many companies, we are experiencing supply challenges that have impacted our kitchens’ ability to make enough of our recipes. We apologize to all pet parents who rely on this food! We know how important it is to find the right food for your pet and how frustrating it is to not be able to find it. We’re doing all we can to get our supply levels back to normal.

This is a really good food for ferrets so if someone is looking at this and has a ferret could you maybe answer this question? So, can the majority of the ferrets meal be this product and the rest the wysong Epigen 90? Like 80% cat food 20% wysong?

  1. I actually use 3 different kibbles for our ferret in equal portions . The Epigen 90 digestive support/ Instinct Ultimate Protein/ Select Chicken Formula (Marshalls) . I find Lewis digest this combination well and between the three, most nutritional needs are covered. I also get "Pickle Juice For Ferrets" , this has all the omega ! Hope this helps !

Why the packaging for Instinct Ultimate Protein chicken (10 LBS) is not vacuum sealed and air tight? When I squeeze the bag I can even smell the flavor of chicken in the air.

  1. I just received a bag yesterday. Mine is sealed and when I squeeze it, no air escapes and I can not smell any chicken or food smell. Something might be faulty with the seal on your bag. I would return it.

How many carbs does this food have for a 9lb cat?

  1. zero

How much carbs does this food have ?

  1. I do not see the carbohydrate amount listed anywhere on the bag. You might want to check the Instinct website.

If this product is "Cage Free Chicken"... then why does it say up above, in the description, "Made without... CHICKEN"?! Doesn't anyone proofread your website? LOL!

  1. Hi KathyKat, Thanks for letting us know. This will be fixed.

If the description says made without chickpeas, then why are chickpeas on the ingredient list right near the beginning?

  1. Hi Mamacat04, Sorry for the confusion. This has been forwarded to the concerned team for an immediate fix. Thanks.
