Description

Hissing Cockroaches (Gromphadorhina portentosa) are relatively large insects that are known for their ability to make noise and their ease of handling. 1-2 Hissers can be housed in something as small as a 1/2 gallon container, as long as it has adequate ventilation. A group of hissing cockroaches should be housed in a 10 gallon or large habitat. A screen top is a must, in order to prevent escapes - these roaches can easily climb glass. 75-85 degrees is their preferred temperature range. Hissers prefer temperatures over 80 and should never be kept below 70 degrees. Hissers can live comfortably at higher humidity, and will thrive between 60%-70%. Keep coconut fiber damp and mist regularly. At time of sale they are eating fresh fruit and Josh's Frogs Roach Rations, with hydrated water crystals (or watering gel) available at all times. They enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, celery, bananas, apples, and oranges.
