My digs loved this after moving them from chicken and Farbers dig which aggregated allergies. Thank you! My furry kids love this one and allergies subsided.

What Price For Good Health?!

My girl use to eat Canidae , but all of a sudden put the breaks on eating. One day she would eat, the next she wouldn't. She would spit up and I would give her Cerenia. I have 4 other dogs who didn't have this issue. I decided to take her off and put her on Just Food For Dogs. This problem went a way immediately. I was going to get her scoped to see if there was anything internally. Crazy how a change in food resolves that issue.

Good Product for a picky eater

My dog loves fish but is not a fan of sweet potato, I can’t get her to eat the meal without adding some fresh tuna or fresh chicken to it. However, we also ordered the shelf stable chicken recipe, which she absolutely loves so my guess is there’s too much sweet potato in the frozen fish recipe.

Our 4 yr old Yorkies love it but it’s a ‘bit’ stinky and their breath is too 😷😆 I realize fish recipes don’t smell like the others so, it’s ok!!! We chose this particular recipe for weight control (lowest crude fat %) They’ve only been in JFFD for a couple weeks. We hope the long term effects will be wonderful !!! Will try another flavor next time Amazing support…. . absolutely AMAZING Pam and Jim

Questions

1 - 9 of 9 Questions

how many meals are in one packet

  1. It depends on your pets weight and k/cal requirements

My dog is on low fat <7% food and has allergy to rice.oats barley and flax & peas. I've been making food what is actual % protein? And fat? She also has GERD takes pepsid and prebiotic enzymes.

I just bought a small package of JFFD specifically the fish one. I forgot I had the package it my car, it could of probably been 3 hours of defrosting, one side still had ice crystals. Would this still be safe to feed my dogs? Or to refreeze/ refrigerate?

    1. I would say yes... Get it in the fridge asap. Crystals say it' OK...

How long can this food be stored in the freezer?

    1. There are dates on package. But closed in refrigerator up to 5 days and open less than 3.  I do a fresh package 18 oz daily. No smell. 3 meals 15 pounds. She has stomach and liver cancer, with severe chrohns disease.  Told 15 months ago she had 6 WEEKS STILL ALIVE!!!

What is the total sodium for this food? My dog is on a low sodium diet however she loves fish so i would love to add that into her diet if possible.

    1. Sodium is not listed on the ingredients list for JFFD Fish & Sweet Potato Frozen Dog Food.  Sodium Chloride is the 3rd ingredient listed on the Nutrient Blend for the DIY JFFD Fish & Sweet Potato Recipe.  4T of the Nutrient Blend is used for DIY recipe to create approximately 11 pounds of food.  You can always ask the people at JustFoodForDogs.   You also have the option to request a vet prescribed diet (they will work with your veterinarian) or a custom diet (they have a nutritionist team on staff.)  They also offer a DIY version of the custom diet with a custom version of the Nutrient Blend.

How do I know how much to feed my dog?

    1. If you go to the Just Food for Dogs website, they have a "Feeding Calculator" quiz. It asks you about your dog's current weight, activity level etc, then will give you a custom answer as to how many calories your dog should eat/how many cups of their food per day.

Has any of your food been recalled?  If so, which ones?

Approximately how many cups are in the 72 oz package? I'd like to mix 1/4 cup into my dog's meal as a topper, but want to know how long the package will last. Thanks!

      1. 9 cups according to Alexa

My dog weighs 60 lbs. and is 9 mos. old. I would like to keep his weight at 58 - 60 lbs. How much of the JustFoodForDogs should I feed him daily?

      1. According to the JFFD website, this recipe has 28 calories per ounce.  It has the lowest calories per ounce of all the JFFD offerings.  For a 60 lb puppy older than 4 months, 6.50 cups or 52 oz is recommended.  For a 60 lb adult dog 4 cups or 31 ounces is recommended.  Keep in mind, this is probably for an extremely active puppy or dog taking several long walks per day.   The JFFD website has a calculator to determine how many calories to feed your dog per day.  I personally think the recommended calories is a bit high for a Basset Hound (I have 2 which just turned 1 year old.)  There are probably other calorie calculators on online.  Remember, the calories per day must include EVERYTHING that goes into your dog's mouth - including and especially treats (which are the diet busters.)   Dr. Greg Martinez DVM who wrote the "Dog Diet Answer Book" recommends the following for a 60 lb dog:  Resting Energy Requirements/Weight Loss 833 calories per day - Puppy (4-6 months) 1666 calories per day - There is no recommendation on this chart for a puppy 6-12 months of age - Adult (inactive) 1083 calories per day - Adult (active) 1254 calories per day - Senior (inactive) 1000 calories per day - Senior (active) 1250 calories per day.  There are more suggestion on how to lose weight or maintain current weight in the book.
