Description

So Phresh Odor-Control Paper Litter with baking soda is the tough-on-odor, easy-on-the-Earth way to handle your cat's dirty business so the two of you can relax with a clean conscience. Paper that was once a newspaper or student book report is recycled into light-weight, moisture-locking pellets. Our litter is super-absorbent; it won't even break apart or cake at the bottom of the pan when wet. Our formula controls odor in two ways: baking soda and zeolite work together to neutralize unwelcome ammonia odor, and it has a fresh clean scent for especially smelly situations. Feel good about scooping sustainably knowing that you're using recycled paper litter to keep your home smelling fresh and clean.

Terrible Product

jdpjdp

Purchased paper pellets as they were out of pine pellets. The smell of ammonia is terrible. The pellets do not clump or disintegrate. Cleaning the litter box is just dumping it all out, so I guess I will go through it in no time. It is not worth $18 and hope I can get a refund.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hard pieces of “plastic” in litter

Cats all day

I have been using this litter for years. It’s certainly not good at odor suppression, but I refuse to use clay litter and it’s not horribly tracked by my cats. However, This morning I discovered hard, small yellow and colorless pieces of material in one of the litter boxes. I panicked wondering if one of my cats was passing stones or crystals. After an unsuccessful internet search trying to find anything that matched it, and unwelcome bladder presses on all of my cats, I thought to check the unused bin of litter. After sifting through I found another piece of the yellow plastic. Seeing as this is supposed to be recycled paper I’m not sure how plastic ends up in there. The point of this review is to save someone else a panic attack and $$$ down the drain at the vet if you also find it. I left a question in the question section too so it’d be helpful to know if anyone else has seen this. I’ll probably be switching to a different pellet brand after this experience.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Paper pellet litter is the best!

Bon Bon

Paper pellet litter smells fresher, lasts longer, doesn't stick to the litter box, doesn't track all over and it is easy to pick it any stray pieces.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s great to hear that paper pellet litter is working so well, fresher scent, longer-lasting, low tracking, and easy cleanup are all big wins. Sounds like a smart switch for both you and your cat!

Overall, a pretty good litter

We have been using So Fresh Litter for a couple years after our previous paper litter brand was discontinued. She used this new one right away. Most of the time it does control odor and there is only a little dust. I like that it comes in a 25lb bag that i am able to handle. However, she does track a lot of the little pellets out of the box which could be inproved. I would recommend this product to a friend.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Absolutely Awful Ammonia Stench

Juniper

I hate leaving bad reviews but this litter was just so awful I had to. I've had cats most my life and I have worked at a cat boarding facility, so I've interacted with many litters, and none have been as ineffective at scent masking as this one. The scent of ammonia was so overwhelming as to make my eyes water. It smelled frankly more of ammonia that plain cat pee; the artificial scent mixing with the pee in a horrible acrid stench. My entire house smelled of ammonia while using this litter. And I am certain my cats did not urinate anywhere else

No, I do not recommend this product.

Best litter ever, been using it for about 17 yrs. I use it in the breeze way trays. It is very hard litter. just scoop out the waste & throw it away. Just add to the tray as needed. My 4 cats will be 17 on Aug. 3rd.

Janet

I tried SoPhresh on the recommendation of a friend because I was in search of a cat litter that did not create a lot of dust. The SoPhresh paper pellets are perfect for absorbing moisture and odors and is dust free. I have two cats and have been using this litter since they were adopted - almost 8 years!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 19 Questions

Has anyone found small yellow and/or colorless pieces of hard material in their bag…like a really thick plastic? I found pieces in a litter box this morning and thought it was stones/crystals from one of my cats until I found more in the unused litter.

  1. Never seen them

How hard are these pellets? I have a kitten with sensitive paws and would like consumers opinions before I purchase.

  1. The pellets are firm but smooth and light—easy to dig through. I don’t have any kittens, but I cannot imagine the litter would scratch or irritate a kitten’s paws.

Can this be used for birds cage? Is it safe for them?

  1. I wish I knew.  I use this for my Japanese Chin puppy, he is 9 years old.

What is an ALTERNATIVE USE for these pellets? I bought too many & didn't return them in time. THANKS

  1. You could donate them to a local cat shelter

I bought three bags of this litter. I was very happy with the first bag that opened. Unscented and worked great. The second bag has a strong mildewy smell. I don’t see any mold or anything different from first bag-just has a strong smell. Anyone else?

  1. I have been using this litter for about 8 years. I have 10 cats...so I buy 12 bags a month. YES!!! Sometimes the litter has problems. Sometimes the pellets are small, or large or smashed. Sometimes the smell is awful...like toxic. I keep using it because it doesn't track. I take out the solids....stir the rest....and completly change the litter every 3rd day. I have better luck with the one that says..."clean fresh scent" and has the siamese cat on the bag. Quality control is lacking for this product and the price just keeps going up. It use to be $10 a bag and now is $17. I keep buying though as it still works the best for me. I've tried everything out there. Just have Petco replace your bad bag. That's all you can do. Hopefully...they'll get more consistant with the product.

How do you scoop it? The pellets don't sift out. I'm wondering if it's because I've mixed with regular litter till the cats get used to it. Do you just try to scoop out the dark paper?

  1. Hi Gramma jean, It is possible that this is due to mixing with regular litter causing it to be harder to scoop or potentially the type of scooper that is being used. For best use, spread 3 inches of litter evenly, ensuring the bottom of the litter pan is dry. Remove with a litter scoop specifically targeting the areas your cat used, the darker paper. Scooping frequency is up to your preference, but it is recommended to scoop once daily. Dependent on how often you are scooping now this could also be a reason it may be harder to scoop. Hope this helps! Thanks,

Do I need a special box for this litter?

  1. No.

Is this packaging recyclable?

  1. No, the packaging is a celophane (plastic) thick enough to handle weight and shipping without breakage.

What is the difference between So Phresh Odor Control Paper Pellet Cat Litter, 25 lbs. w/brown & white Siamese cat on it and the other So Phresh Odor Control Paper Cat Litter, 25 lbs. w/orange & white cat? The say the same things.

  1. I think the orange cat is fragrance free.

Will this product ever come in a paper bag? The contents are great and provided some peace of mind that it is recycled paper but the packaging is counter to that. I'd feel even better buying the product if it were in a recycled bag.

  1. I agree but as a customer I cannot answer that. You should contact the manufacturer.
