Best pill shooter for size 3 gel capsules

Gade

I bought this pill shooter from Petco, because I had so many puncture marks on my fingers from trying to shove my dogs pills down her throat. My dog is currently on 5 different medications, 4 of which are pills. I would definitely say, these DO NOT work on small sized pills, which is what my dog takes most since she is only 10 pounds. I don’t have a problem with getting her to swallow the small pills, but she kept spitting out the size 3 gel caps that I fill with Cyclosporine. This shooter is PERFECT for that. After filling the gel capsules with the Cyclosporine, you only have 2 minutes total to get it into your dog, otherwise the gel capsules start to melt. As soon as my capsule is filled, I rub a tiny bit of coconut oil on the capsule to make it slick so that it will slide down her throat easily without it getting stuck, place the coconut oil coated capsule into the pill shooter, pull the trigger back, and try to get the end of the pill shooter as far back into her mouth without her gagging, and push down on the syringe. The force is pretty strong, which is what makes this pill shooter effective for me. The first time I used this on my dog, she had a look on her face like “what just happened?” I also give her about 3-4 ml of chicken bone broth right after as a chaser, just to make sure the pill went all the way down her throat and didn’t get stuck in her esophagus. I would highly recommend this pill shooter for capsules, and I hope my tips can help someone else struggling to get meds into their dog without too much stress.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Used with cheese whiz

I considered not getting this because of the bad reviews but I was desperate so I gave it a try. I recently adopted a dog that had been in animal services for over two years. She has had severe separation anxiety and be very stressed but she would not take her trazodone no matter what I tried, even hidden in hotdogs and peanut butter didn’t work, she would spit the pill out every time. This pill popper has worked wonders! I put that doggie cheese whiz on the applicator and let her lick that off a few times before loading the pill. I also practiced putting the applicator further back in her mouth. Now she takes her medication easily every time, she even gets excited to take it. I’m so relieved this has worked!

Yes, I recommend this product.

If you're struggling to give your cat pills like I was, buy this. I used to have so much trouble trying to toss the pill into the back of my cat’s throat—especially now that I have to give three pills twice a day. This tool has been a lifesaver. You can load all the pills at once, making the process quicker and far less stressful for your pet. The soft tip ensures it won’t hurt them, even if it touches the back of their throat. It’s gentle, effective, and easy to use. Even my mom—who doesn’t have a cat and had never done this before—was able to learn how to use it and help while I was away. If you’re dealing with the same struggle, this is absolutely worth it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not worth it

Having tried every trick to get pills in our dog, we took a chance on this pill dispenser. Clumsy to use (not easy with one hand as the directions state) and very inconsistent with ejecting the pills (either barely released the pill or the entire rubber holder came off with the pill which of course was a concern if the dog swallows that piece). Did several “practice” tries before using it with our dog with no improvement. Will not be using again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

My dog was not eating so I couldn’t put her pills in her food. I drove 70 miles round trip to get this. I bought two just because they are hard to find, I’m glad I did. I tried it first with just the average size pill before I tried it on my dog, I inserted the pill and the rubber tip immediately started to tear. I cut the pill in half and then it falls out of the tip. I kept it sideways so the pill wouldn’t fall out, injected the pill and the rubber tip fell off which my dog swallowed. What a piece of junk.

No, I do not recommend this product.
