Brushing more often (in an area that's easy to clean up any hair that flies away) can certainly help. Keeping carpets and furniture clean can also help reduce pet dander and allergens. If you do a search online, there are also special shampoo sprays that can be used on cats to help reduce excess dander without harm to your cat. Having an antihistamine on hand for your friend to use, and keeping bedding/cat towers/etc out of common areas your friend will frequent may also help.

There will be a period of adjustment when you'll have to be patient with the dog as she adjusts to her new owner. Be sure to know in advance what commands your friend uses, what behaviors in response to those commands she knows, etc. Even if she is "housebroken" at your friend's house, she will not know the rules at yours. so be sure to teach her, and do not get angry if she makes a few mistakes as she learns. Now if they truly did not get along well and the other kitty was trying to harm your older kitty, it is probably best to keep them separate.
