Hello. Most times you can give Anipryl along with Trazodone safely. On occasion, if the doses were/are high enough with both drugs, you might see serotonin syndrome. I am sure your veterinarian is quite aware of the doses used & is confident that Mitch will be fine. If you do see any unusual symptoms, agitation, muscle stiffness, distress, pacing, call your veterinarian. This is easily treated. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I agree with your vet, the melatonin would be best. Dogs, especially a large 70 pound dog, would take a very large dose of lorazepam or alprazolam. They metabolize those drugs quickly so a large dose is needed - a small dose would do nothing. While those drugs can be given to dogs, I suggest you ask your vet before giving either of those drugs since they have your dogs entire medical history. It is contraindicated to give Anipryl along with certain antidepressants, opioids and benzodiazepines.

Hello! Anipryl can be very effective in dogs with CCD. It is individual as to how well it works though. In some dogs it gets rid of almost all signs, but in others it may only help with 1 or 2 of the issues they have. There is no way to tell before trying it, if Babs will be one of the dogs it helps a lot. In dogs that respond to it, it will usually be working within 1-2 months.

If Mitch has been on Anipryl for a while, I wouldn't expect the diarrhea to be related. If it was started recently, then you may want to back down for a bit and see if the diarrhea resolves. You can add probiotics and feed a bland diet of cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast for a few days to rest the GI tract.
