Check water chemistry. Elevated ammonia or nitrite levels can cause stress. Submit a sample for testing if you don't have a home test kit. Petco or a local fish store may do this for free or for a nominal fee. Partial water changes using aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched can be done until levels are below 0.25 ppm. If your filter has an adjustable flow, turn it as low as possible. Bettas do best in slow moving water. You can soak pellets in garlic juice to stimulate his appetite and boost the immune system.

Check the water chemistry and temperature. If incorrect, either can cause stress which will lead to illness. Perform a water change if necessary. Use only aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent further stress or shock. You can use ampicillin for fish in the tank. It can be found in the aquarium section of the local Petco. Follow label directions carefully and treat for 10-14 days then reassess his condition. Poor water quality can cause stress which can lead to infection. Check the water chemistry and quality first. You can use a home test kit or submit a water sample for testing. The local Petco may do this for free or for a small fee. Aim for 0 ppm ammonia and nitrites with nitrates at 20ppm or less. Perform a partial water change (no more than 30% total volume at once) to stabilize chemistry and/or to improve water quality. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Bettas are tropical fish and do best between 78 F and 80 F. Add a teaspoon of plain aquarium salt (NOT table or Epsom salt) per gallon of water to the tank. Dissolve it first in a cup or two of tank water. The salt will reduce stress, improve gill function, treat minor infection and aid in recovery. Treat for 14 days then reassess fin condition. Perform partial water changes afterwards to decrease salinity. At the same time, withhold food for 2-3 days. Resume feeding bits of cooked,

It is very difficult to see the markings of these fish from the pictures. Many fish may be able to live with a Betta if there is a large enough tank. Here are some guidelines on how to pick tabkmates for a Betta. No nibblers – if a fish nibbles at a Betta fish they will get bit back! Bigger fish and colorful fish could be seen to be intimidating – you don’t want to intimidate a fighting fish! Think of the size of your aquarium – you should always have 5 gallons of personal water space for your betta fish Many bottom feeders* are fish that can live with bettas Remember the dietary requirements for both tank mates Add a few tank ornaments and live plants for any intimidated fish to hide (just incase) You can find some more info here. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/category_home.cfm?acatid=158

Hello, I recommend checking water quality parameters first for any fish displaying abnormal behavior. For starters, I'd recommend keeping your fish in a larger tank as it is much easier to keep the water clean over time. This website is a good reference for basic betta fish care: https://bettafish.org/care/ I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
