The Sharks and Tetras can eat a high quality flake food every day. Brine shrimp (either live or frozen) and blood worms can also be offered. Tetra and Hikari are my own recommendations. The Pleco can eat fresh greens or vegetables. Remove any uneaten food after 24 hours to prevent fouling the water. Sinking wafers or pellets can also be offered.

Check the water chemistry. Elevated ammonia or nitrites can drive her towards the surface. Perform a partial water change daily to stabilize chemistry and maintain water quality if indicated. Use only aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent further stress or shock. Bettas do best between 78F and 80F. Plain aquarium salt (NOT table salt) can be used as a general tonic to reduce stress, improve gill function and aid in any recovery. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water in a cup of tank water and gently pour it into the tank. Treat for 10-14 days then reassess the condition. These steps should get her eating again. If not, try soaking the pellets in some garlic juice to stimulate the appetite and provide an immune system boost.

Taylor, thank you for using Boop by Petco! We can certainly answer your question. I have good news for you. This is normal and no cause for concern. It is similar having crumbs go all over when you eat chips or a crispy cookie. You can try feeding less flakes or switching to a pelleted diet.

Allow new aquarium plants to settle and establish themselves before adding any fertilizers. Even though you have plants with low to moderate light requirements, be sure to use aquarium light specifically designed for planted aquarium use (sometimes called plant lights) and have the lights on between 10 and 12 hours a day. You may need to adjust the photoperiod (the amount of time the light is on) depending on how your plants are doing and to prevent unwanted nuisance algae growth.
