Hello. If you can fit the original cage in your car, that would be best. You have a relatively short trip, so I do not think this will be overly stressful for him. Remove the food & water, make sure the cage is well anchored in case you have to hit the breaks & cover the cage with a light sheet. At your destination, place the cage in the quietest room possible & try to keep curious family members from attempting to engage your bird. Is there a type of bird cage for parakeets. We have two that are in a basic counter top cage but I wanted to get a bigger one. I was told not to get one with dome top. Is this correct?
Hello! You absolutely can get a dome top cage! The bigger the better for birds, as exercise is very important to their physical and psychological health. The major thing to consider if the bar spacing. You don’t want the parakeets to be able to get their heads through the bars, so stick with 1/4-1/2 inch spacing to be safe. Some big cages have wider spacing, around 1 inch and this may be too wide for your birds. Also, make sure the cage is high quality powder coated and not exposed metal, as zinc and lead exposure can be an issue with wrought iron or hand made cages. Good luck!

Feed a good quality pelleted diet (Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or Exact) supplemented with a fortified seed mix and fresh greens and vegetables. Provide a cuttlebone or mineral block. Always have fresh water available. Provide an appropriately sized nesting box and suitable nesting material (straw, Aspen shaving, shredded newspaper, etc.).

hi i'm just wondering how to move sky into his new cage that i got him yesterday. and he doesn't really trusts me, and he's not fully trained. what should i do to move him into the new cage? also i have 2 parakeets that i'm trying to move but right
The easiest way is probably to put the new cage with the door open directly onto the open door of the cage your new bird lives in. eventually he will hop over into the new cage. You can help by taking a long piece of card board and move that through the side of the cage separating the two birds and then gently coaxing the new bird into the new cage. you can also wait until they sleep at night and then pluck the new bird from its perch by hand ( very dim light, so he does not wake up).
