Blue Buffalo has had a few recalls, most recently in March due to possibly high thyroid hormone levels in beef. It was a voluntary recall you can read more about it at https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/ucm547335.htm. There have been no recalls listed since that time. I would consider it a safe food. Some dogs do well on it, but we also see dogs where this brand causes diarrhea or GI upset. Every pet is different and may do better on one food vs. another, so if you have been feeding Blue Buffalo and your dog does well on it, I see no reason to change his diet.

Blue Buffalo is a terrible food, and I never recommend it. You'd be hard pressed to find a vet who recommends it. I would switch Billy's food. Brands I recommend Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Iams.

The reason is mainly because the big brands have a lot of money and they invest a lot in advertising, this influences both clients and people working in the veterinary industry but it does not mean that these brands are better. today you can find excellent quality brands such as the ones you mentioned.

Blue Buffalo is a terrible brand of food, and many animals put on it have diarrhea and other GI problems as a result. I NEVER recommend it. I recommend Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein Adult HP dry cat food. Royal Canin is an excellent brand. I hope this helps!

I'm so sorry that Katie was diagnosed with lymphoma. Athough they have not done as significant of studies in cats as they have with dogs, our goals with cancer are to feed a food high in protein and fat, but low in carbohydrates. This is especially important for cats since they are obligate carnivores, so a canned food is ideal. A salmon based diet is a wonderful idea since omega 3 fatty acids can have some anti-cancer effects. My cats love Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon. They also love Wellness Turkey and Salmon. Cats rely on their sense of smell to entice their appetite, so smelly fish based foods are a great idea for a cat with cachexia. I also find that rotating foods on a regular basis can be very useful for cats on chemo, so they don't get turned off to a particular food if they are nauseated. I hope that was helpful! Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
