What is the best dog bowl material that is non toxic, going to stay clean, not get a film at the bottom and not harbor bacteria?
Hello, and thanks for your question on Boop by Petco. It's great that you're being conscientious about this! I recommend ceramic, glass, or stainless steel bowls. They tend to be cleaner, and are safe to throw in a dishwasher cycle now and then. I'd specifically avoid plastic. Hope that helps!

My dog will hardly eat from her bowl, which is a basic metal food bowl. But she will scarf down her food from my hands or from my roommate’s dog’s bowl, which is a black plastic, less reflective bowl. I’m worried about how much she eats in a day. Sho
Considering that her history is not known and her being a rescue, she could have a nervous/anxious behaviour and anything (even a reflection) could actually disturb her meal. I would recommend to wait a bit longer until she gets used to the new environment and then, if nothing changes, buy a new bowl.

You are very welcome. In dogs we don't see this issue so much with water intake. Cats are usually always problematic to get adequate water into their system. Therefore your dog can have either wet or dry based on preference of the pet and yourself. I feel that giving half dry and half wet to cats is certainly better than no wet at all. Plus I can certainly understand that this may be more a cost effective way to care for your pet. If you also implement the placement of water fountains in your home, then this has shown to encourage cats to drink more because it is considered a fresher water source. I honestly have never heard of the special bowls made just for spaniels. That is a great idea and as long as your pets drink from it, then I say mission accomplished! It is, after all, still just a water fountain. I can certainly understand not wanting to continue to use a fountain which gets a daily dip from your pets ears. I have no found any definitive research linking plastic bowls to cancer. From what I can see, it's anecdotal evidence. Unfortunately sometimes young cats get cancer. It's rare, but it does happen. Don't feel responsible, it's not your fault.
