Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Good question! In general it is best to purchase these medications from your veterinarian. When purchased through a veterinarian the company will most often guarantee the effectiveness. This is usually not the case with products bought online or over the counter. When sold through a veterinarian the company that manufactures the product will stand behind the product and often pay for medical treatment should the product not work for some reason. The veterinarian also knows how to properly store the product so that it does not get damaged or becomes ineffective. Finally, sometimes over the counter products or products sold online can be counterfeit or even dangerous to use. Your veterinarian also knows what particular products tend to be most effective for your location.

If you have proof that the dogs have a current negative heartworm test (current means a test within the last year) then you can get the product at any one of our VETCO vaccination clinics. If you do not have proof of a negative heartworm test, you can get the test done at the clinic and then you can buy the Interceptor (or any type of heartworm prevention). Yes, you can give Aries Capstar in addition to the topical Sentry medication. Be sure to continue applying topical flea prevention monthly in order to break the flea lifecycle. When he is due for the next dose of medication, I would recommend using a higher quality (both safer and more effective) flea preventative, such as Advantage, Revolution, or Bravecto. If you have any other dogs or cats in the house, be sure to treat all pets with good quality flea prevention. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

You can pick up flea medication from your vet's office. You don't need an appointment to get them. Flea treatment from your vet's office will be a better product than those you can buy from the supermarket. If your dog already has fleas, you can get Capstar. It's a single dose pill that works in 30 minutes to kill fleas. The next day, you can put a spot on treatment like Advantage. It has to be used once a month every month for effective protection against fleas.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This will depend on if you are able to get rid of the fleas before then. You are doing the right thing by using the Capstar and bathing him but that does not guarantee that no more fleas will be present. I think it would be best to keep them separate for at least a few days to a week until you get a feel of how well controlled Louie’s flea infestation is. Remember that you can use Capstar daily to effect. Remember to vacuum all the surfaces that have contact with him. Good luck and have a great day!
