Carprofen is an NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It can help relieve pain and also decrease inflammation. It is used in cases of painful joints such as arthritis or hip dysplasia, sometimes in combination with other drugs/treatments if it is not providing adequate pain control. You can read more about the drug at https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951477

There are no drug interactions between omeprazole, carafate and carprofen however, don't give them all together. You would want to give the carprofen either 1 hour prior or 1 hour after giving the others. Carafate and Omeprazole given at the same time as carprofen will inhibit it's absorption. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Spice. The typical dose of Carprofen is 2mg/lb once daily, so you did not overdose her, but gave her the full days dose in a few hours. You do not need to give her charcoal, just wait 24 hours after the last dose, then start giving it again as instructed. I hope this helps!

In an otherwise healthy dog, the toxic dose of carprofen is 20 mg/kg as a single dose. So if your girl got 1/2 of the tablet (37.5 mg) each day, we would not expect this to cause toxicity issues unless she weighs less than 4 pounds. Carprofen overdoses normally cause GI problems like vomiting and stomach ulcers, or kidney failure at very high doses - loss of function in the rear legs would not be an expect symptom of this, so it's likely that she has a back problem causing this rather than a reaction to the carprofen. Rear leg paralysis can be very serious, especially if she has no movement or sensation at all in her back legs, so it would be best to take her to an emergency clinic tonight rather than waiting until morning if you can. Depending on the severity of the problem, some dogs may need emergency surgery to restore function.
