Hello. Cephalexin is a very common antibiotic used in pets & usually does not cause a problem, but your dog may indeed have a sensitivity to it. I am glad you held off giving the medication this evening, but I would try it again tomorrow morning about 30 minutes after she eats. If she holds it down, great but if she vomits then your veterinarian will need to prescribe another antibiotic on Monday if necessary. Continue the steroid as this is the more important medication. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Lethargy and altered behavior are pretty typical side effects of prednisone. Along with this you may also see things like increased drinking, urinating, and eating. Long term side effects can include liver damage and commencement of certain diseases of the endocrine system. Cephalexin is an antibiotic that has the main side effect of gastrointestinal upset. If you decide that you do not think the prednisone is worth using due to the side effects, do not discontinue it abruptly. It has to be tapered down slowly as to prevent any harm to Kaiser. Hope this helps.

Cephalexin and Simplicef are both cephalosporins, so they are the same group of antibiotics, but cephalexin is the generic name for a 1st generation cephalosporin and Simplicef is a trade name for Cefpodoxime which is a 3rd generation cephalosporin (so it is a newer drug) and works better in some circumstances. Here is more information on both drugs. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=538 https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2038 I hope that was helpful! Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. At the high end of the dose of 60mg/kg for systemic infections, it would be approximately 436mg every 8 hours for that dose for a 16lb dog. A 500mg capsule will not likely cause any life threatening problems. You may see vomiting and diarrhea but this should resolve on its own. If you start to see neurological symptoms such as seizures or a wobbly gait, I would have a veterinarian examine KC. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be happy to help further.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Prednisone is a steroid. Steroids cause pets to eat more, drink more, urinate more, and pant. The increased stool could be if he is eating more but antibiotics, like cephalexin, can cause loose stools. I suspect the signs you are seeing is because of the medications. If you notice any vomiting or diarrhea please let the veterinarian that prescribed the medications know. Kisses to Cooper!
