What is the medication cerenia used for? My dog just got prescribed it and I'm not 100℅ sure why.

Hi, I can understand why you are anxious for your road trip! It sounds like Ainsley has quite severe motion sickness. Cerenia is the best drug for this and has two dose ranges (one for general nausea, and another range which is higher for motion sickness ). Legally I am not allowed to give dosing information about medications without having performed a physical exam on her. I am certain that your vet would be able to tell you if she's at the maximum dose for her weight. Also they can advise on the safety of using other drugs alongside cerenia. You could also consider trying Adaptil which is a pheromone product which can help with anxiety, particularly for travel. It comes as a collar and a spray that would likely help her as well.

Cerenia is a drug called maropitant, it is very effective but unfortunately it is very stingy on injection. I imagine this has scared him a little, but if he seems out of sorts for an extended time I would consider going back.

Meclazine is commonly used as an antinausea drug but essentially it is an antihistamine. The exact mechanisms of action for its antiemetic and anti-motion-sickness effects are not completely understood. Cerenia is a very effective aniemitic that works in multiple ways.

Hi I currently have trixies cerenia for nausea compounded into an oral liquid. Do You know anything about the generic form of cerenia and if it works as well? Also how do you feel about prednisolone being compunded into flavored treats? Effectiv
I have used the compounded Cerenia in one case before with success. If it is from a reputable compounding pharmacy, I wouldn't have concerns. I haven't had any issues with compounded prednisolone and I think it would be fine and effective.
