Hi there! Bruce's behavior is very interesting, and understandably concerning. Comfortis hasrarely had some documented neurologic side effects in certain animals, but I have not seen or heard of this specific reaction. I highly recommend that you let your vet know about the behavior, and call Elanco's (manufacturer of Comfortis) adverse event reporting line, as they like to keep track of any possible negative outcomes from their drugs. They may even be able to give you some insight on the behavior, and whether or not other people have been reporting it. Their number is 1-888-545-5973. Comfortis is a great product, and it sounds like Bruce is no worse for the wear even after these bouts. Involving your vet will help you decide if it's worth it to keep using the Comfortis, or to perhaps switch to a different product. Good luck, and I hope that Bruce stays happy and healthy!

Legally, we are unable to recommend this in the absence of a patient-veterinarian-client relationship and physical exam. You should contact your veterinarian. If your vet gives the okay, treat all your pets for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round. Your vet can dispense Capstar which will rapidly kill any adult fleas on your pets to get a jump on treatment. You will also need to treat the environment. This will include vacuuming everywhere the dogs have been, washing all bedding and using an area treatment, such as Knockout ES, to prevent reinfestation.

It is quite fortunate that there are oral flea preventatives available that make it easier to protect dogs with thick coats, like Babies. Flea preventatives that are oral include Nexgard, Bravecto and Comfortis, but all are prescription based medications and require an active veterinarian-client-patient relationship to be legally dispensed. I can certainly understand your financial concerns! If Babies has seen her vet in the past year, consider calling her vet to ask if one of these medications can be dispensed. Otherwise, consider looking into your SPCA or local shelters, because many offer low cost veterinary clinics.

Hi there. Since you bathe Sophie so often, a topical flea medication/dewormer is probably not a great choice. Based on what you're looking for, I would suggest using Heartgard or Sentinel for heartworms and intestinal parasites, along with Nexgard or Bravecto for fleas and ticks. Vomiting is a common side effect with Trifexis, but is not usually seen with other oral flea/tick or heartworm medications - most dogs tolerate all of the products listed above with no problems :)
