Hello. This product does have some shampoo in it, so you can see if this leaves a soapy residue on Callie's coat after spraying her. If there is not too much residue, then diluting before brushing should be fine. If not, you may still need to rinse her off. They do make leave on dry shampoos & conditioners for dogs. You might want to check one of these out, too. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

You can try to make the grooming experience as pleasant as possible for Penelope so that she will be more willing to hold still. I'd try offering her a very highly valued treat (something she loves and only gets when groomed) to distract her while you try grooming her. As long as she does not have a dietary sensitivity Peanut butter or spray cheese can work nicely. Initially you may need a second person to offer treats to distract while you groom, but hopefully Penelope will eventually allow you to groom her without an extra hand. You may want to also try Adaptil spray to help calm her during grooming. If these techniques do not work you will need to take Penelope to a veterinarian who offers grooming services. Thanks for using Boop by Petco!

Benedryl can sometimes calm down some pets but not always. Additionally, NO over the counter medication or herb will calm a pet enough to allow any actions if the pet does not want it done. A better option for Hawkins is to have him groomed professionally or speak with your veterinarian about a stronger sedative like Trazodone or Acepromazine. Clippers instead of scissors may make mats easier to remove as well. I hope this helps and please feel to post any additional questions.

If there is a secondary bacterial infection, I would recommend using product called Duoxo Chlorhexidine + Calm shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend picking up a hydrocortisone spray (Well and Good at Petco) and apply daily to the affected area to relieve inflammation. If it does not resolve or worsens, I would have a veterinarian take a look at Harley so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
