Hi. I'm glad you checked. Red rated sliders can be fun pets but they also require specialized environment and care. She should eat some live feeder fish, some plant matter and only about 25% of her diet should be commercial pellets. Be sure she has an area to get out of the water in her tank, she needs a basking light for warmth and full spectrum UV lighting. Housing is the number one reason that sliders get sick or die in captivity so please take the time to get her set up correctly. Here is a great beginner article for RES care. http://www.anapsid.org/reslider.html

Given the other symptoms (lethargy, decreased appetite), she may have an infection or abscess. Ideally, she should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. If it is infection, she will need antibiotics which are by prescription only. Review her diet with your veterinarian to confirm proper nutrition. She should also have a heat source, UVB light source, access to fresh water and an adequately sized enclosure.

Sideneck turtles are omnivorous. You can offer earthworms, crickets, beef heart, feeder fish, collard greens, spinach, dandelion greens and mixed vegetables. Feed an adult as much as can be eaten in about a minute every other day. Juveniles should be fed more frequently. Decorate with rocks and logs to provide a means of getting into and out of the water for basking purposes. Gravel or sand can be used as substrate. A filter is necessary to maintain water quality. The tank should, ideally, be at least 55 gallons depending on Hanible's size.
