Hi how would you compare blue buffalo Rx diet HF hydrolyzed canned food to hills Z/d hydrolyzed rx canned diet? Trying to find an alternative to royal Canin Selected protein Rx diets which Trixie will no longer eat .. nor does she like the hills z/d
Frankly, I do not care for Blue Buffalo products because they have a history of lying about their ingredients in their diets. Hills and Royal Canin are my preferred brands. There are other limited protein food brands out there, such as Natural Balance, which has formulas with a single protein source and a single carbohydrate source, making it less likely for your cat to develop an allergy.

I uaed to give fancy feast to my cat but I heard it's not actually very healthy, so what are som good and not too expensive wet food brands?
I really like Hill's Science Diet, Iams (very inexpensive), or Purina for better options that are much better than Fancy Feast. It is good that you want to go with a wet food, since cats are not big water drinkers. This will help promote good kidney and urinary bladder health. You can also mix in the wet food with dry to help stretch out the wet food and make it even more affordable! IF you are going to transition her to the new food, please make sure to do this over the course of a week to help avoid an upset stomach. A few months ago, kovu stopped eating completely and got down to 5 lbs. we figured out that it was because he didn’t like the healthy food (Royal canin) I was giving him anymore. The only food he would eat was gravy fancy feasts. Now he’s back up to
Personally I have several patients that seem to do well on Fancy Feast. As long as he is maintaining a healthy weight and does not have other health concerns I think it would be fine to continue to offer canned Fancy Feast. The foods without gravy tend to be lower in carbohydrates which might be better nutrition for cats, but again if he seems to be somewhat picky and has been underweight in the past you may want to stick with what he likes. It also might be a good idea to double check with your vet and see if they have other recommendations.

Right now I am feeding mostly pate cans of Fancy Feast - 4 cats - 6 bowls and I feed separately to one who is old and I do this or she would never get any. My vet wanted my one cat Kahlua on a Hill's prescription G/D diet hard foot so I leave that
Thank you for using Boop by Petco! Hill's G/D diet is a great diet to feed older cats. It may have slightly less protein than is needed for younger cats. Unfortunately, Fancy Feast has a higher amount of fat and salt in it, so it does cause cats to gain weight. I recommend feeding your other cats a dry kibble, there are light or diet options from Hill's available as well. Being overweight can cause diabetes and other medical conditions in cats, so it is definitely a good idea to have them lose their extra weight. I personally really like Pro Plan out of those choices, and I also recommend Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, and Iams. Any one of those four are excellent brands of food for Chester. I hope this helps :-)
