Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Unfortunately, there is nothing over the counter that is going to be anywhere near as effective as Proin for urinary incontinence. However, there are some supplements out there that can help. Side effects may include decreased (or loss of) appetite, restlessness, tremors, increased heart rate, cardiac arrhythmia or high blood pressure. Most dogs tolerate the drug very well.

Capstar is effective for killing adult fleas that are on Max. You will need a topical or oral treatment to continue killing adults and eggs both on and off him. Frontline, K9 Advantix and Vectra are just a few topical preventatives. NexGard and Bravecto are newer oral medications. Your veterinarian should examine Max to rule out other causes for the hair loss and to dispense antibiotics or antihistamines if indicated. Topicals are very effective when used properly. Use the appropriate dose based on Max's weight. Do not split doses between pets. It must be applied at least 3 days before or after a bath or grooming. It must be applied directly to the skin. This is accomplished by parting the fur with the applicator tip down to the skin. Treat ALL pets in the house for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round. I would discuss this issue with your veterinarian. We definitely do not want to stop the Prozac suddenly as he could develop withdrawal symptoms. Other supplements that could help include Zylkene or a prescription cat food like c/d® Multicare Stress Feline. Acupuncture is another alternative method that may help with stress and urinary issues in cats.

Unfortunately, it's common for treatment to take 6-12 months, or even be required lifelong if the infection was severe enough (involving the nervous system) before treatment was started. You could talk to your vet about switching to a different anti-fungal to see if it's a better fit for your pup.
