My dog has been prescribed 300mg Gabapentin. I left the bottle at my dog-sitters house. I also take 100 mg Gabapentin. I have read that I can give my dog Gabapentin human Gabapentin as long as it does not have xylitol in it. How can I be sure it does
Good question. If Xylitol is listed as an ingredient on the bottle, then it has xylitol in it. Typically the xylitol containing Gabapentin is the liquid version. If there is still any doubt, you should consider having your vet call in a new prescription to a pharamacy near you so that he/she doesn't go without his/her medication for long or potentially ingests a toxic form of Gabapentin. Also you should know for future that if Gabapentin is abruptly stopped in pets, it can lead to severe rebound pain in pets, so its best to keep your pet on it consistently or taper the dose. Hi, no this is the dosage we use for a standard weight cat to make them a bit drowsy and less anxious to go and see the vet, it normally works very well ! It sounds a lot but it is what we normally give. Hope this helps and that it works well for you too.

Gabapentin for cat with road trip anxiety?
We are using gabapentin now more commonly in pets with anxiety or fear prior to stressful events such as a trip to the vet. This could possibly include a road trip as well. This is, however, a prescription medication so it will require a visit to a veterinarian for an examination of your cat or a call to your vet if they have seen your cat recently to determine if they feel the drug is safe and appropriate for your cat in particular. We cannot prescribe medication via this website since we haven't personally examined your cat. My 1 yr old Jack russell mix, weighs approx 30 to 35 lbs just ate 300mg of Gabapentin that I was trying to give to my other dog. This was about 20 minutes ago. Should I be concerned. He did ingest the whole 300 mg.
Thank you for providing Cooper's weight in your question, it's very helpful in answering! In veterinary medication, Gabapentin has many uses, such as treating seizures, pain, and anxiety. For example, if we were to use Gabapentin to treat anxiety, it can be used in a dose range of 5-30mg/kg up to three times daily. If he is 30 pounds, that's about 13.6kg. If we dosed him at the max of 30mg, that would be 409mg of Gabapentin he would be allowed to have at one time. This means that the amount he ingested (300mg) is a safe amount for him to have, but I expect that he will likely be very sleepy from this pill. I hope this helps!

If this was prescribed by your vet , then this is the amount of medicine he needs. Gabapentin may make him a bit drowsy in the beginning, but that should subside after about two weeks. Gabapentin is against nerve pain. Tramadol is an opioid which takes some pain as well and Metacam is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory which takes away inflammation and therefore also pain. These medicines are safe, however watch your dog's poo in the first two weeks. If it is black or tarry then stop the Metacam and inform your vet.
