GloFish are schooling fish. They do best in groups of 6 or more. If you have just a few, they may be stressed which can cause aggression. Check the water parameters since an imbalance in chemistry can cause stress as well. You can use a home test kit (one with liquid drops, not test strips) or submit a sample to you local pet store or aquarist. Most will perform water testing for free or for a nominal fee. Ideal parameters measure 0 ppm (parts per million) ammonia and nitrites with nitrates at 40ppm or less. pH of the water should be between 6 and 8. They are cool water fish, so aim for a water temp between 65 F and 75 F. Hopefully, this will help. The other option you have is to remove the aggressor. You can request a consultation to discuss the situation and set up in greater detail or if you have further questions or concerns.

Before you buy any fish, you will need to set up the tank. A basic set up includes: a tank, filter, hood/light, heater, gravel and some decor. The tank should run without fish for at least 4 to 6 weeks. This gives it time to cycle. The Nitrogen Cycle is critical to the health of the tank and any fish you will be keeping. During this time, beneficial bacterial will populate the filter and substrate (gravel). These bacteria will be responsible for breaking down fish wastes and other wastes (uneaten food, dead plants, etc.). You will need a home test kit to monitor water chemistry (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH) or you will have to submit water samples for testing. Most pet stores will do this for free or for a small fee. At first, you will see high levels of ammonia and nitrites. Over time, as bacteria grow, these levels will drop. When ammonia and nitrites are at 0 ppm and nitrates are below 20 ppm, you can consider adding fish. Regular (every 1 or 2 weeks) partial water changes as we

Arowanas need large tanks due to their size. They also require powerful filtration to maintain water quality. Water changes will also be critical to water quality since they produce a lot of wastes. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. A home test kit should also be used to monitor water chemistry. Minimum tank size should be between 130 and 150 gallons. Adults will need larger tanks. Keep a cover in place as they are accomplished jumpers. They should be kept in "soft" water and, being tropical fish, maintain temps between 75 F and 86 F. Feed a varied and balanced diet including krill, shrimp, mealworms, nightcrawlers and feeder fish. Food can be fresh, frozen (thaw it first) or freeze dried. Lastly, these are aggressive fish, so tank mates must be chosen carefully, if at all.
