I am sorry your goldfish passes away. IT is most likely nothing you did wrong. I would be concerned that the fish was sick before you every purchased it. Sometimes from local pet stores the fish are sick and the stress of transport can cause them to pass. I would contact the pet store and ask them if they have had any other fish pass away. I am so sorry for your loss

The Cowfish, or Longhorned Boxfish, is a marine species that should be kept only by experienced aquarists. When stressed, they can release toxins into the water which may harm tank mates. Pacman frogs, leopard geckos, corn snakes or bearded dragons are all easy to keep.

Check the water chemistry. Two goldfish can quickly overwhelm a tank with their large bio load. Aim for 0.25 ppm (parts per million) or less ammonia, 0 ppm nitrites and 40 ppm or less nitrates with a temp between 65 and 72F. If water chemistry is good, it is possible the red marks are from the pleco. They are notorious for sucking the slime coat off goldfish leaving red marks and wounds. Partial water changes, 30-50%, using aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched are safer and less stressful than complete changes. Give the antibiotics time to work. You can add in plain aquarium salt (NOT table salt) to aid healing. Dissolve one teaspoon per gallon of water in a cup of tank water and gently pour it in the tank. Perform partial water changes after 10-14 days to reduce salt content.

Thanks for your questions about your tank. You have a number of fish in your tank already - a general rule of thumb is 2.5 square centimeters of fish per 3.8 liters. Depending on how large your fish are, you may be close to the carrying capacity of your tank, and you will also need to plan on how the fish in your tank will grow over time (mostly the rainbow sharks). If you are looking for tank mates for discus, it is best to look for fish that are housed in the same temperature zone, and occupy different areas in the water column than they do. Examples would be bottom feeders like cory catfish, those that live on the sides and bottom such as plecos, and those that are in the middle of the water column like some species of tetras. For the question about vacation - I would not recommend leaving your tank for that long without someone checking on it regularly. Power outages can be detrimental for tanks, and water changes or additions would likely be required. Also, automatic feeders als
