Most cases of kennel cough will resolve, with or without treatment, within 3-4 weeks. The cough can linger for a bit longer. A half teaspoon of honey several times daily may soothe her throat and ease the cough. Monitor for lethargy, fever, difficulty breathing or a productive cough. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Cough can be caused by an infection, heart problem or lung condition, it is important to first know the cause before treating it as treatment is different from condition to another. The most common disease causing cough is a viral infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

Yes, I have heard of this treatment. The efficacy is variable so I cannot say it is a 100% effective treatment. If you want to go the homeopathic route then it is worth a try. Here is a link you can refer to for dosing. They also recommend an alternative treatment if the phosphorus does not seem to be helping (nux vomica 30c). That treatment I am not familiar with. ( https://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/natural-treatment-for-dog-flu/ ) At the end of the day, if your dog is ill I strongly recommend you work closely with your local vet to make a treatment plan. Antibiotics are often administered to dogs with the flu to prevent secondary infections from bacterial agents.

There's really nothing that can be given at home to lessen the duration of the condition. Keep him warm and rested, away from other dogs and be patient. If he hasn't been seen by a vet, it's a good idea to since he may need antibiotics to help him recover faster. If he's coughing so much he cannot sleep or rest, that's another reason to get him seen so he can be prescribed cough suppressants. An occasional spoonful of honey can coat his throat and help suppress the cough temporarily.

Unfortunately there is nothing very helpful over the counter that can be given for kennel cough. You can try to run a hot shower and let them inhale the steam for 10-15 minutes as sometimes this will help with airway congestion. The good news is that most dogs recover from kennel cough on there own fairly quickly. Make sure they keep eating and drinking normally because if they are stop this can be a sign of a more serious illness. If they aren't feeling better within a couple days or at any point their symptoms get worse you should have them examined by your veterinarian. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I hope Tango is feeling better soon!
