I would say Joey is a large breed dog based on his mix of breeds. I recommend feeing him a high quality large breed dog food. These foods will have joint support, which is great for bigger dogs. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps!

Not only are grain free diets implicated in DCM but actual, documented grain allergies are very rare in dogs. That is all marketing hype from boutique pet food companies. I suggest you use Eukanuba large breed or Iams Proactive Adult. As long as it is a name brand food with an AAFCO label on it. This means it has been tested and meets specific standards. Typically royal canin, Purina, science diet, and Iams qualify for this. Be careful switching foods without suddenly as this can cause diarrhea. It is best to mix them and gradually switch it over a week

Iams. Grain free diets appear to have a link to heart disease in dogs (although the connection is not yet figured out). Iams is a good food that is safely made. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I personally like Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I have fed Royal Canin and Iams to my pets (cats and dogs), and have found them to be excellent food for them. They will all have a giant breed formula. Acana and Orijen are good brands, but they are quite expensive.
