Most pet stores will not "buy" back animals. Each one may have a different policy, so you would need to contact the store directly and speak with a manager. Contact the local humane society and ask if they have any people looking to adopt a bird. You can do the same with local veterinary clinics. If there is an avian vet nearby, contact them or check the office bulletin board. There may be options there.

Thank you for your question, and thank you for being concerned about this bird. It is very kind of you. I am wondering, if you haven't brought it to the attention of the pet store staff, I would recommend starting there. I would agree that I don't think that it is a great idea to bring a sick bird home with you, especially into a situation that can be stressful for some birds (even if a dog is very nice, they can be very scary to a bird of this size). And with non-specific signs of abnormal droppings and sleeping a lot, there are numerous things that could be going on. I would recommend bringing the bird's state to the attention of the pet store, and hopefully they will have it evaluated. There are many pet stores who work directly with veterinarians to treat the animals that reside at their stores, and when the animals are feeling better, they can then go to a new home. I hope that gives you a place to start, and I hope that you are able to help this little bird feel better!

Unfortunately changing a dog's prey drive is very difficult. Even the best of dogs still have instinct take over at times and there isn't much you can do other than make sure the bird and Ptolemy are monitored at all times. You can also find a local trainer and see if they have any advice but in my experience this is very hard to prevent. I'm sorry about your budgie. It's great that you're trying to plan ahead and make sure you're asking good questions! I'm not sure what breed you're looking at, but in general, I would definitely consider saving up a bit to purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder if you can. Even if the purchase price is a bit higher than a puppy from an online ad, getting a pup from a more reliable source can save you a lot of heartache (and money!) down the line by avoiding costly health issues and behavioral problems due to poor breeding. If you do opt to go ahead and purchase a puppy through on ad online, I would talk to the breeder/seller about the following things: 1) Make sure the puppies are AKC registered. Even if you want "just a pet", no responsible breeder would be breeding dogs that aren't AKC registered. It's a big red flag that you're dealing with a puppy mill or really careless backyard breeder. 2) Ask what health clearances the puppies' parents have had, and ask to see documentation.
