It has been determined that my dog has fleas. We took him to an emergency vet last month and got Nexgard for him there (only a 1 month dose). We are coming up on the 2nd month and have nowhere to get more nexgard and his condition has gotten worse as

You will need to get him a cone collar to stop him from chewing that spot until you can get the fleas and his discomfort under control. The lesion will not heal unless he stops chewing at it. Sparky seems to react to nextgard spectra. Within a day of taking it he loses his appetite, passes a lot of wind and is lethargic. This recurs to a lesser extent every few days and lasts a few hours. He has also passed what look suspiciously like
You have a few options. If you want an all in one product, try Trifexis. Otherwise you will two separate products. You might try Simparica (fleas/ticks) and Interceptor (heartworm/intestinal worms). I also recommend to have Sparky's stool checked for worms in case that was a round worm. For that parasite, pets are often given bolus dewormings since people can get that worm. That will clear up the infection faster.

Unfortunately, Nexgard does not repel ticks. It is a wonderful product but it requires the ticks to bite the dogs before it kills them. Other products like Seresto and Advantix work by repelling and killing ticks. The tick season is especially bad this year and many people are having problems with these little buggers.

My vet prescribed Nexguard as a flea & tick prevention medication. Is it safe? I've heard it harms dogs.
If given at appropriate dosage Nexgard is safe and does not harm dogs at all. In my experience I had few negative feedback regarding efficacy. But overall I consider it a good product. Brody takes Nexguard for tick & flea prevention. His refills come by mail & are delayed so he will be three days behind his next dosage by time we receive them. Will this delay in dosage make his more suceptible to fleas and ticks ? Or will he be ok
Nexgard lasts 30 days so it is possible he could get fleas and ticks if his dose is delayed by a few days. You may want to see if your veterinarian would be able to dispense a single dose so he gets it on time - you may be able to skip a month of your automatic refills.
