I have a 22 year old Timneh African Grey parrot. I have used Harrison's pellets medium size in the past. It has been discontinued. My parrot won't eat the fine size and drops the large size into water. I need suggestions of what else to use.

Their diet in the wild is mostly insects and berries, so purchasing some live crickets from a local pet store, or some berries from your store and offering them may help get them used to what they would forage for in the wild as they get weaned off the kitten food (and can be fun to teach baby birds how to catch food with live insects.) If there isn't a wildlife rehab nearby (India does have several), you can also see if there is a vet or group in your area that does wildlife rescue that may be better equipped for caring for the birds and releasing them back into the wild once they are old enough.

Some toys or changes to the environment are definitely a great way to help reduce boredom. You can look for toys that are soft or fuzzy to encourage preening and chewing behavior, or toys that can move around such as swings or bendy ladders for exercise. Treats that have to be pecked at are also great enrichment. Just be sure to choose toys that are designed for your bird's size and activity level. If you have a pair, you may also want to add in a nest or some nesting material to encourage building and give them extra enrichment.

Thanks for your question about Zucchini. I am not sure if I completely am understanding your question, so if I don’t address it completely please re-post. Honey sticks are often very appealing to our pet birds, but unfortunately they are not good for them. They contain a large amount of sugar that can result in gastrointestinal upset and can also result in bacterial and yeast growth in the intestines. I would recommend using a different high value treat item for training and socializing purposes. You mentioned seeds, and those can be very useful. Wild bird in South Australia Pied Butcher bird. Sore swollen feet. Prefers to stand (on the side of) one foot. Now has swallowing problems. Fed dog food and occasionally grated cheese. Please help love Nicki x
Ideally, it should be examined by an experienced wildlife or avian veterinarian. The symptoms reported may be due to injury or infection on or around the feet. It may also be diet related. Dog food and cheese are not appropriate foods as these birds subsist on a diet of small prey, insects, fruits and vegetables. It is never recommended to feed wildlife as it can be detrimental to them and dangerous to you.
