Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is possible to cause diarrhea and gastrointestinal upset by giving too much fish oil. I really like the American journey wild Alaskan salmon oil product for this purpose. I think this product can help Buddy a lot with his hair coat. Good luck!

my dog as been having dry skin and i was told he should have fish in his food for the oils. i do feed him science diet but the do not have fish. what is a better alternative to change his food to that comes in fish?
Science Diet is an excellent food but as you have noticed their over the counter foods typically don't have fish. They do have a prescription diet with fish but it can be expensive. Gizmo has really dry skin, especially around her ears. Is it safe to use the oil from a fish oil tablet and rub on her skin? Can I add some to her food? Or can I add a vegetable or Olive oil to her food to help replace some oil?
I would recommend an oral fatty acid supplement to help keep the skin healthy. Welactin is one we commonly use, though your vet can also recommend a product or your local pet store may also carry fatty acid supplements.
