I would potentially be concerned that there is a nutritional deficiency, however if you are feeding a high quality commercial cat food that is less of a concern. Another possible explanation is the presence of a medical condition, such as a liver problem or anemia. Since this is a problem that has been going on for several years, it may be due more to a behavioral problem as opposed to a medical problem, but if you have not done so I would recommend getting her checked out by your vet (also run labwork to be thorough). If all is well consider using a product like Bitter Apple (https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/grannicks-bitter-apple?cm_mmc=PLA-GG-_-PTC_P_SUP_PLA-GG_FY16_NB-AllProducts-PLA-_-Supplies_All-Products-_-92700017178553481&kwid=p17178553481&device=c&gclid=CPTw0LX0odMCFYNGXgodxyMHaA&gclsrc=aw.ds) to deter the chewing.

Chewing on toys is a great activity for dogs to help them burn off energy, keep them occupied, and help keep them from chewing on other things in the house that are inappropriate for them to chew on. Dogs have individual preferences for the types of toys they chew on, so it may take a bit of experimenting to find out what Abby likes. Rope toys, soft toys and rubber chew toys are all good options. There are even puzzle toys where you can hide food and that will keep your pup busy trying to get the food out. Avoid any toys that are too hard- you should be able to easily dent the surface with a fingernail, as anything harder than that could lead to fracturing of the teeth. Avoid offering bones, antler, and similar objects for this reason. Always supervise play, and if you notice your dog trying to eat any pieces of the toys, take them away, as the pieces could cause a blockage of the intestines that could lead to the need for surgery to remove it.

To keep dogs entertained for a longer period of time, I like to feed dehydrated chews. My largest dogs prefers bully sticks (https://www.bestbullysticks.com/4-inch-odor-free-bully-sticks) and my smaller dog loves dehydrated fish skins (https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/beams). They also like dehydrated sweet potato chews like Sam's Yams, but I might do something smaller for Jasper like their Bichon Fries (https://www.frontporchpets.com/sam-s-yams-bichon-fries-new-larger-size-12-5-oz.html). There are a large number of dehydrated chews on the market now, so you might ask at your local pet store to see if they have any suggestions for you. Please let me know if that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

A dental problem is possible and sometimes it can be difficult to see signs of dental disease in cats or lesions can be present below the gum line. Eating non-food objects can be behavioral, but in some rare cases it can be a sign of a nutritional deficiency or gastrointestinal disease. If this abnormal behavior continues I’d recommend having Lika examined by your vet.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Cats have the life don't they! I would try a laser pointer, toy that is along stick with a feather on the end and when you give him treats throw them so he has to chase them. Cats do normally sleep a lot. Check out the link below on environmental enrichment for indoor cats. Good luck! https://www.catbehaviorassociates.com/what-is-environmental-enrichment-and-why-does-your-cat-need-it/ https://indoorpet.osu.edu/cats
