These special treats can be beneficial. Howeever, specific cat food for urinary problems is far superior. You should be able to buy this prescription urinary food at your vet. Another problem that makes male cats prone to urinary troubles is being overweight. !8 lbs is quite heavy and, unless your cat is a very big breed, he may be obese and needs to lose weight. Chronic cystitis/UTI is also caused by stress. If your kitty is the sensitive kind and easily stressed, you need to find potential stress factors in your environment and remedy those. Try some Feliway diffusors or spray to make your kitty more relaxed.

I typically recommend the following: 1. Welactin omega 3 fish oil for cats 2. Cosequin for cats 3. Duralactin paste 4. Dasuquin for cats Any of these will be great supplements to use. You can use the Welactin and Duralactin together along with either Dasuqin or Cosequin (not both). I hope this helps! If Stella is in a lot of pain from arthritis, she may need more than supplementation and more along the lines of pain medication to reduce inflammation and pain. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.

Sully is adorable! Thanks for including a picture. I wish I could give you a simple answer to your question, but every animal is different and some require a combination of products. I would say that about 50% of the animals I try it with have a good response to Rescue Remedy, so that is often my first choice for cats (especially since it can just be added to the water). I have not used the other products, but both appear to have ingredients that could be used alone or in combination with Rescue Remedy. Don't forget that natural supplements are much more variable than medications and will not sedate, so they are sometimes not enough for a very anxious cat. I also recommend combining supplements with a Feliway Diffuser ( https://www.feliway.com ) or a Comfort Zone Diffuser ( https://www.comfortzone.com/ ) in your house. This is a calming pheromone that will work for a month. You could also consider calming music specifically for cats ( http://throughadogsear.com/tace/through-a-ca

Calming supplements containing typtophan and b vitamins such as kalm aid can be very helpful in such cases, as can acupuncture although in many cases we do not know the exact cause, any relief of symptoms is positive

Canned food is recommended because it has a high moisture content and it is a high protein/low carb diet. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they require protein (of animal origin) and very little to no carbs in their diet. In the wild, the only carbs ingested are typically those eaten by small prey. Many dry foods, by their very nature, are high in carbs which can lead to obesity. You can continue to feed a dry food as long as you choose a grain free or low carb product. Keep them up to date on vaccines, use monthly parasite prevention, feed a healthy diet and provide plenty of exercise and love. Probiotics can be used to promote gut health and won't harm them, however if they have no GI issues then you can skip them.
