Most cases of kennel cough will resolve, with or without treatment, within 3-4 weeks. The cough can linger for a bit longer. A half teaspoon of honey several times daily may soothe her throat and ease the cough. Monitor for lethargy, fever, difficulty breathing or a productive cough. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Cough can be caused by an infection, heart problem or lung condition, it is important to first know the cause before treating it as treatment is different from condition to another. The most common disease causing cough is a viral/bacterial infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Pete! Was Pete put on antibiotics when he was seen? Kennel cough is caused by many viral, bacterial or mycoplasma organisms. There is only the ONE vaccine for Bordatella. A lot of dogs sadly get a different bacteria or virus that causes the kennel cough signs. Kennel cough is very goose honkey. Since Pete is lethargic, has a decreased appetite, is pacing at night and is 12 years old he should be rechecked. I would recommend X-rays of his chest. If his heart and lungs look clear then either put him on antibiotics and a cough suppressant if he isn't on anything or change the medications since he isn't improving and is actually getting worse. I worry about older dogs with possible kennel cough. The young and the old have increased risk for kennel cough to progress to pneumonia. I hope this helps and I wish Pete the very best!

If Korbyn is healthy and we are just looking to make sure that his body has everything it needs to stay healthy, one of my favorite supplements is a multi-vitamin that has extra antioxidants and fatty acids like VetriScience Canine Plus Multi Vitamin. https://www.vetriscience.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=9008606090 There are a lot of supplements on the market for dogs. I always recommend ones that have the NASC Quality Seal https://www.vetriscience.com/index.php?l=page_view&p=nasc Good luck! I hope that was helpful and answered your question. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

I would recommend that you have your puppy re-evaluated by a veterinarian. Kennel cough does not usually cause this severe of a depression. It can, however, turn into pneumonia and should be treated very seriously. There are no human OTC cough suppressants that are safe to use in his situation since we don't know exactly what is going on. Warm water with honey and lemon is safe, and may soothe a simple cough.
