I have a lab mix (about 2 years old) and I live on a dead-end street on 4 acres. I want her to stay in the yard, but sometimes she visits neighbors for hours at a time and there are a couple of dogs that come through and she will roam with them. I
I think an underground fence or an electric fence that has a home base (see link below) might be the best solution. Petsafe is a good company who makes these products. It shouldn’t scare her further away but it should keep her inside the boundaries. I would keep the level on low to keep her from becoming scared to go in the yard. This is the safest thing to prevent her from getting out and either getting lost or injured. There is also a GPS tracking device for the collar called whistle that you can use to keep up with her if she still gets out. So we are going to use a remote collar to train the puppy to never chew the chainlink fence she doesn’t do it often . A trainer on YouTube Solidk9 training recommended. I think it’s better to have a mild stem correction than broken teeth one day. Als
Sport dog is a good brand with several levels of correction. This will not be effective for chewing unless you are always there to correct her. If she chews when you are not home there is no way to know or enforce or correct this. For any training you have to ask them to perform something they know, such as sit. If they do not do it you push the button. If they do well then you reward them. Keep them on a leash while training. When you ask them to come, you pull the leash. If there is no interest then you correct them. They will learn to associate the two things together quickly to respond

From the perspective of him getting loose a harness could be more secure. I find, however, that this encourages them to pull more. I like the easy walk harnesses the best or even the gentle leaders. I would also recommend some obedience training as they can help you Willy off leash management

What is your personal opinion on the starmark training collar for dogs? I have a dachshund and was wondering if it was if I would be bad for his back? I know putting collar on a dachsund puts strane on their back and neck... but, is it safe to use it
This is my own opinion unrelated to either Boop by Petco or Petco. I am not a fan of prong collars. The potential for injury or misuse is too great. Damage to the trachea, larynx or esophagus is possibly along with the risk to cervical vertebra. If you choose to use it, consider a consult with a certified trainer to learn proper use. You can also consider a Gentle leader or Halti. Both are head harnesses that allow for quick correction of negative behavior and offer greater control than a simple leash and collar. Remember, positive reinforcement and consistency lead to better results when training your dog.

I have used a static bark collar and a cintronella one on my small barking dog. They are annoying to the dog, more than painful and they do help. Training also with an experienced dog trainer can give you some ideas too. Personally I would not do the de-barking surgery. It is expensive, puts your dog through unnecessary risk and pain and is not always effective. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Koda.
