I have adopted a puppy mill dog who is not responding to being ina home that loves her so much. She is so skiddish and overly garded. can you recommend a calming medicine I can get at Petco.
You can try HomeoPet for anxiety. They sell it at PetCo. For my terrified puppy mill dog I used the supplement Solliquin. Another product people recommend is rescue remedy. A pheromone diffuser can help as well. My dog took several years to relax in our home. I recommend having places for Brandy to hide and get away when she wants. Letting her come to you and not forcing the situation is best. Have treats and toys available to get her interested in being with you. My boy was much worse when picked up or restrained. He does better when he can get on the couch and sit with me as long as I don’t physically hold him or pick him up. The best thing for him was taking him to obedience class. He loved being with other dogs and learned quickly. He became more confident and relaxed from the classes. For days where it is very hot, you do want to avoid taking your dog for a walk at the hottest parts of the day (mid-day) especially on paved areas as your dog's feet can get burned. They do sell dog booties that you can put on your dog's feet to help protect them. There are many different companies that make these, one example is https://www.amazon.com/HiPaw-Breathable-Dual-Boots-Protector/dp/B01HS2M7FI/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1496836452&sr=1-7&keywords=dog+boots. If she has no skin/coat issues, just a gentle oatmeal shampoo is fine for bathing when needed. Most dogs do not need frequent bathing unless they are getting very dirty and bathing too often can dry their skin out. I wouldn't bathe more than every other week unless needed. My personal preference, completed unrelated to Boop by Petco or Petco, would be Cosequin ( http://www.cosequin.com/dogs/ ) or Dasuquin ( http://www.dasuquin.com/en/products/#dog ). Both are made by Nutromax Labs.

Hello. Petco carries a number of products that might help. Zymox makes a spray & a salve that contains hydrocortisone, that can really help with the itching. On-line, you can find many more products such as shampoos & conditioners that also contain hydrocortisone. Topicals only work for short periods of time. Longer relief can be obtained with immunostimulants such as Apoquel & Cytopoint, both available from your veterinarian. Your pet may also have additional issues such as skin mites, fleas, bacterial & yeast infections in the skin, & your veterinarian can certainly help to sort some of these issues out.
