Hey so in a couple of days We (my family) will be driving 2 hours away to a breeders house to get a 8 week old golden retriever puppy! I would love to know what I will need to bring for the puppy and if I should be aware of anything before the trip?
A collar and leash would be a great idea! But know that it takes time for puppies to get used to a leash - I just want her to be safe! A small carrier if you do not plan to hold the puppy the whole trip. Usually the breeder will tell you what kind of food that Ginger has been on so you can purchase some ahead of time. If you want to switch the food, gradually mix them together to transition her to the new food over 2-4 weeks. Ask for any records of shots or dewormers that the breeder has given so you can take them to Ginger's first vet appointment. I recommend a checkup with a vet within the first few days to test Ginger for intestinal parasites and any obvious congenital problems (like a heart murmur or abdominal hernia). Some puppies can become car sick, but it should wear off within a few hours of being home. She may also miss her litter mates and be sad for a few days. Easy snacks include raw carrots or green beans. You can also dehydrate boneless chicken breasts to use as treats and rewards. Most of the premium diets offer treats in their product lines. These brands include Royal Canin, Canidae, Acana or Orijen.

Hello. I will be picking up my French bulldog/boxer tomorrow. What type of treats and toys are great for this breed of dog? Note I will be transporting the dog via car after pickup.
Thank you for submitting your question. Congratulations on your new dog! Indestructible toys are going to be best until you see how aggressive of a chewer he or she will be. Young puppies are not as destructive as older puppies and adult dogs. You may want to try a variety of products to see what this dog will like best. Kongs, puzzle toys and Nylabones are a good variety. You just want to make sure that pieces cannot be bit off of any toy. Nylabones can be hard on the teeth if the dog chews too aggressively. As far as treats, start with peices of the dog's regular kibble. There will be a lot of stress with moving to a new home. Additional diet changes can lead to diarrhea. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! What an exciting time. You would need to start by getting a high quality diet (I like the Purina Pro Plan diets though there are plenty to choose from). Also, a dog bed and toys will be important as well. I recommend that you check with your veterinarian to get him in for initiation of vaccines and to start other preventative care medications such as flea and tick preventatives and heartworm preventatives.
