Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Rocco! Your pictures look like a deep pyoderma (skin infection). To try and treat at home I would use a medicated shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide once daily on the shin and then apply mupirocin ointment on it twice daily. You can google this ointment and find it online. If it doesn't get better Rocco should see a Vet for oral antibiotics. I wish you the best! https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21564

It is hard to really answer your question about Rocco beccause many factors go into allergies. There are three types of allergies in dogs - this inculdes food, environmental and flea. I would highly recommend apply flea prevention every 30 days to Rocco even if you do not see fleas. When a dog is allergic to fleas it only takes 1 bite to make them very itchy. It can be difficult to tell the difference between food and environmental allergies. I typicallly do not start apoquel unless the patient has been on a food trial. This is where they feed a prescritpion food ONLY for 12 plus weeks. Over the counter food can be contaminated with proteins and will not work to determine a food allergy. If we have proven the patient only has an environmental allergy than apoquel can be a good medication to use. However it is only going to work ifthe skin does not have any type of infection present (like bacteria or fungal and also ear infections). Apoquel does suppress the immune system to help decre

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Rocco has these spots on his body. They look like they could be ringworm, which is a fungus that infects the skin and causes patchy round area of redness and hairloss. Often a topical antifungal shampoo or cream will help treat this, however in some cases oral antifungal medication may be needed. I recommend monitoring Rocco's response to the treatments that your veterinarian prescribed, and have him evaluated again if signs worsen or do not start to improve within a week! I hope this is helpful!

For days where it is very hot, you do want to avoid taking your dog for a walk at the hottest parts of the day (mid-day) especially on paved areas as your dog's feet can get burned. They do sell dog booties that you can put on your dog's feet to help protect them. There are many different companies that make these, one example is https://www.amazon.com/HiPaw-Breathable-Dual-Boots-Protector/dp/B01HS2M7FI/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1496836452&sr=1-7&keywords=dog+boots. If she has no skin/coat issues, just a gentle oatmeal shampoo is fine for bathing when needed. Most dogs do not need frequent bathing unless they are getting very dirty and bathing too often can dry their skin out. I wouldn't bathe more than every other week unless needed. You can follow this with a creme rinse. I like https://www.amazon.com/Virbac-Epi-Soothe-Shampoo-8-oz/dp/B002CZHYPA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496836697&sr=8-1&keywords=virbac+episoothe+shampoo and https://www.amazon.com/Epi-Soothe-Cream-Ri

Every dog is a little different and you may have to experiment a bit to find the food that Roscoe tolerates the best. I don't know what your budget is, or what is specifically available in your area, but here are a few brand options: Natural Balance Taste of the Wild Merrick Canidae Most of these brands offer grain free treats as well. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
