Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Semintra has actions of decreasing blood pressure and decreasing the protein loss with kidney disease. Therefore, if no kidney disease is present, and no high blood pressure is present, then you might see signs of low blood pressure or changes in the sodium and potassium. These are unlikely to occur but possible. Foaming urine is a sign of protein in the pee. Has the urine been checked for protein? I would recommend a Urine Protein:Creatinine Ration to properly assess if protein loss is present. Checking the blood pressure is a good idea as well (although somewhat difficult to perform in stressed cats accurately). I would probably recommend starting on a kidney food as a early management/prevention vs. starting on Semintra, unless your vet has a high suspicion clinically that Nomar has kidney disease (weight loss, dehydration despite drinking/peeing a lot, overly dilute urine, etc.). It is best to mix it with canned cat food. I suggest not keeping food out for her all the time so that way she is hungry when you go to feed her. She will be more likely to eat it all. Mix the medicine with the smallest amount of canned food (like a teaspoon or two) and make sure she eats that first. Then you can give her the remaining food. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Although a nose bleed does not appear to be a common side effect since it occurred after starting this medication it would be best to skip a dose until you can talk to your vet. It is also concerning to start a medication like this without having a baseline blood pressure. This would be systemic blood pressure taken like a person with a cuff. This drug has not been studied in cats with extremely high blood pressure and would also be contraindicated with normal blood pressure. Not all cats with kidney disease have high blood and there are numerous causes for protein in the urine. Was the protein loss determined to be significant? In order to know this a test called a urine protein:creatinine ratio is needed. Protein loss in the urine can not be determined as significant based off a screening urinalysis alone. Hi and thanks for your request. Cat's on chronic kidney disease are rarely experiencing pain. Controlling hypertension, decreasing urinary protein loss, and addressing anemia are important therapeutic goals in cats that develop this condition. Only hypertension might be vaguely related to discomfort, but this has not been proven in cats.
