Plane rides can definitely be stressful for cats. There are several different sedatives that would be appropriate for a healthy young cat. Gabapentin is my favorite, but you'll have to talk with your vet to see what they are comfortable with. Acepromazine is a sedative that was commonly used previously, but is not longer recommend because we understand better that is it slows down the body, but not the mind - not so helpful for scary situations. Good luck!

Those side effects are more common with chronic long term use. One to two doses prior the appointment will provide mild sedation and help calm her for the visit. You can try feliway spray. You spray a towel for the carrier and place a towel on top to help keep her covered

Your kitty, since she is old, may be suffering from Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. Here is some very good information about this: https://www2.vet.cornell.edu/departments-centers-and-institutes/cornell-feline-health-center/health-information/feline-health-topics/cognitive-dysfunction It is not mentioned in the article, but should your vet be able to diagnose dementia (cognitive dysfunction syndrome)in your kitty, a medication called Selegiline (Anipryl) works well in cats. It is also used in dementia in people.

Hi and thank you for visiting Boop by Petco! This large black lesion appears to be a skin mass. Skin masses that look like this can be either cancerous or benign (non-cancerous). The best way to go about finding out which it is, is to get the mass tested through your vet with a procedure called a fine needle aspirate. This is where the vet will take a small needle and draw off cells that are inside the mass and then put these cells on a slide to be read by a histopathologist who specialized in identifying cells. I do hope that this is a non-cancerous mass after it has been tested. If it is then surgical removal will be the likely recommended course of treatment. Best of luck to you and Merlin moving forward on this. Take care.

The pet calming collar may be a good idea. I like the Sentry calming collar. I'd also get a Feliway diffuser. That releases calming pheromones when plugged in. Have them both seen by a vet for a wellness check.
