There are so many choices out there for diets now it is almost exhausting trying to choose among them. One of the main things you can at least look for on the packaging is the AAFCO certification. This means that the company at meets a certain standard and that the pet food company meeting this standard has underwent certain testing voluntarily by an independent organization. Fromm's is definitely one of these companies. Honest kitchen is also AAFCO approved though they would like to make the claim that their food is essentially people food. Dietarily speaking, I am more a traditionalist and would definitely going with Fromm's. They are a well-established company that will go to great lengths to defend their product and name. This product is just a flavor enhancer and is only necessary to help get your dog to eat his normal food. It does have some nutritional properties to it and the ingredients all appear safe and appropriate to use for feeding. Just keep in mind that you are adding calories, so it should be minimally used with his normal food and you may consider cutting back his normal food a little if you are going to regularly add this to it. This product is definitely not intended to replace the food and is not nutritionally balanced like the royal canin food is. I hope that helps and all is well with Joey.

Easy snacks include raw carrots or green beans. You can also dehydrate boneless chicken breasts to use as treats and rewards. Most of the premium diets offer treats in their product lines. These brands include Royal Canin, Canidae, Acana or Orijen.

My favorite brands of food are Acana, Origen, Lotus and Hobest Kitchen. You can see if they are available in your area. Some of the freeze dried raw diets such as honest kitchen are very palatable to picky eaters. I also find that adding fish oil and warm water to dry kibble can be very appetizing. It is also a very healthy supplement for them.

Boiled skinless chicken breast or cooked eggs could be added as toppers - just be sure that these foods along with other treats make up less than 10% of the total diet so there aren't any nutritional deficiencies.
