Sometimes no matter what we do they have a very difficult time with thunderstorms. I would first try the thundershirt, second try curbing his attention to something else while it is happening and if neither helps I would talk with your vet about medication. There are great prescription medications that help a lot with thunderstorm anxiety. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hi there. Thundershirts can be helpful for some dogs, while others don't like them or don't really respond to them one way or the other. So you can try this - it may or may not help. Other over-the-counter options that might be helpful would include an Adaptil pheromone collar, along with a natural calming supplement like Zylkene or Composure.

Yes there are some over the counter products you can try such as the thunder shirt or an Adaptil collar or diffuser. However if you want something that will work without fail I would try Alprazolam or Valium but these require a prescription through your vet so schedule an appt soon. I hope everything works out for your pets and happy holidays.

Your best option is to try to wear Sunshine out every day. Making dogs physically tired typically helps to decrease anxiety and nervous behavior. The thunder jacket may help as well but it may not be comfortable to sleep in and could choke her if it shifts around too much. Make sure to try to keep her on the same routine your parents do as this can help her to feel more secure. If you have to work, you may look into having someone take her for a walk for you in the afternoon. Playing classical music in the background and giving her food puzzles, treat balls and frozen peanut butter stuffed Kong‘s may also help to occupy her. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Congratulations on your new addition! I suspect training will be the key to gaining more confidence for Chester. When a dog is unsure of themselves, giving them commands can be very helpful in decreasing their anxiety because now they have a concrete thing that they are supposed to do. I would recommend a basic training class to teach Chester the basics of sit, down, watch, heel, etc. and use these commands on walks. I think a Thundershirt is a great idea. You can also try some of the herbal calming options such as Composure. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/category/dog/dog-health-and-wellness/dog-calming-aids Finally, you can discuss short term anti-anxiety medications with your veterinarian if needed. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.
