I'm looking for a high quality supplement to add to my dogs food, have you ever heard of Dr. Jeff's Optimum canine care? If so do you think it would be a good one to use? If not could you please recommend one?

I'm so sorry to hear that Wesson has degenerative myelopathy (DM). It is a horrible disease that we see far too commonly. There isn't any treatment that is proven to slow the progression of DM other than regular exercise. That being said, there are some recommendations for diet and supplements. The most common protocol that people have used is Dr. Clemmon's DM diet and supplement recommendations. I am attaching a link to his website below. http://dog2doc.com/neuro/DM_Web/DMofGS.htm He recommends a LARGE number of supplements which I think is too much for most dogs and clients to handle, so I will usually try to find a good quality antioxidant and multi-vitamin to add to a homemade diet. Can nutralin B be given to dogs .
This is a multivitamin labeled for people so I would not recommmed giving this to a pet because they require much smaller doses of vitamins than people do. Typically GI upset would ensure if given people vitamins. I would instead recommend a pet formulated multivitamin and only if the pet has a known deficiency or condition that we are treating for. Most high quality dog foods have all the added nutrients already in the food, so supplements are generally not needed. I hope this helps! Take care.

Hi and thanks for your post this afternoon. The Tomlyn Nutri Supplement is okay, but the salmon oil with the added D3 and Potassium vitamins can be toxic to dogs. Unless your veterinarian has specifically told you to give the D3 and Potassium Supplement, I would advise against it. Regular Salmon Oil without the added D3 and Potassium (just regular plain Salmon or Fish Oil) would be better then the added extra D3 and Potassium. It is okay to give Salmon Oil (or other Fish Oil) with the Tomyln Nutri, just avoid the D3 and Potassium. I hope this helps and thanks for using Boop by Petco!
