what do I do if my puppy is smart enough to get out of her cage on her own?
I would recommend getting a different cage or one that requires two fingers to engage a spring. Dogs are unable to open the cages that have the springs in my experience. These are similar to cat carriers that have the spring loaded mechanism on the door. I hope this helps! Hi, we think the dog we adopted has a minor separation anxiety. She seems to do ok when we leave, but whines when we’re home. If she’s in the crate while we’re sleeping or cooking she will whine and bark. We don’t want to reinforce that behavior but
It is possible Trish could be feeling a bit anxious, or just wants to be with her new people after all this change! If she is OK to be allowed out in the house when you are home, I would just leave the crate open for her to enter and leave at her leisure and not leave her crated unless you cannot attend to her. If she's still working on housetraining, gating off the house so that she has access only to easy to clean areas such as the kitchen, or keeping her tethered to you with a leash can help prevent accidents while she learns. What's a good way to get my older cats to get along with our new little puppy?
I would recommend using a baby gate to keep them separated. However the cat will still be able to see and socialize with the dog through the gate. Once Alix is comfortable he can start jumping the gate and interacting with the dog. It is a slow process and just be patient.

I am sorry you are having trouble with Midna! It may be that she needs some extra time and attention to learn this skill, and unfortunately there are no guarantees that she will ever get it figured out. I would try teaching her separately from the big dog for a while. See if you can get her to do it without the bigger dog around, then try to get her to "wait her turn," after the bigger dog goes through so that it doesn't whap her in the face. Best of luck to you! I have changed Buddy's play pen twice because he jumps out if them. I step out for approximately an hour leaving him in his playpen with his pee pad, his bed, a blanket, his favorite toy, and he still jumps out. I make sure all doors are closed, and
It sounds like Buddy needs a kennel or a playpen with a top on it unfortunately. Now that he has figured out he can jump out he is likely to continue this behavior because it is rewarding to him. My own puppy discovered he could climb his play pen at a young age! I purchased some thick plastic garden fencing and used it to put a "roof" on his playpen to prevent this. Another option would be a large crate if you want a bigger area for him to play in. They also make very tall playpens for larger dogs, but be sure that Buddy isn't actually climbing the side of the pen before you get one of these!
