You cannot give a cat cephalexin 600 mg, it is way too much, you need to take her to the vet in order to get an antibiotic injection and the vet will also most likely need to lance and clean the abscess.

My short answer is no. Cats are very small compared to humans and the dosing is completely different. This is not a safe approach. Plus, antibiotics should never be given without a prescription by a veterinarian, as inappropriate use can lead to bacterial resistance, which can cause more serious problems. Cephalexin and Simplicef are both cephalosporins, so they are the same group of antibiotics, but cephalexin is the generic name for a 1st generation cephalosporin and Simplicef is a trade name for Cefpodoxime which is a 3rd generation cephalosporin (so it is a newer drug) and works better in some circumstances. Here is more information on both drugs. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=538 https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2038 I hope that was helpful! Hello. Cephalexin is a very common antibiotic used in pets & usually does not cause a problem, but your dog may indeed have a sensitivity to it. I am glad you held off giving the medication this evening, but I would try it again tomorrow morning about 30 minutes after she eats. If she holds it down, great but if she vomits then your veterinarian will need to prescribe another antibiotic on Monday if necessary. Continue the steroid as this is the more important medication. Either one of those antibiotics would be fine. In general the amoxicillin -clavulanoc may be slightly better absorbed. Unless your cat is a breeding cat, I recommend to have her spayed as this will provide many health benefits. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
