I have a pastel ball python and I was wondering how many watts I need to get for a basking spot in a 20 gallon tank and he will be turning a year old in september
Use whatever wattage bulb will attain a 90F to 96F basking spot. Usually an 80 or 100 watt bulb on a dimmer switch, easily purchased at most home improvement stores, will get the desired results. Be sure he cannot come into contact with the bulb as this can result is serious burns or injury. No nighttime lighting is required. A 12-14 hour light cycle is recommended.

Hi, For heat you could do a number of things e.g. place any incandenscent bulb above him, place other types of heaters near the tank etc. Please make sure that the temperature is not too high. As for food, this is more of a problem. If he's used to eating crickets it would be difficult to switch him at once to something else. I assume meal worms or otjer insects are also unavailable? You could very temporarily try some soft cat food but it may not work.

The ReptiSun 5.0 UVB bulb will provide sufficient UVA/UVB lighting for an anole. Be sure it is not obstructed by glass or plexiglass and replace it every 6 months (it loses strength over time). Leonard should have 12-14 hours or lighting each day. The simplest way to ensure this is to place the tank light and UVB light on a timer. If temps drop below 65 F at night, you'll need a supplemental heat source for the enclosure. A ceramic heat emitter (CHE) will emit heat with no visible light so as to not disturb him at night. I have a leopard gecko and it seems that the temperature in the tank isn't getting to what it needs to be. I have a heating mat and a thermostat and i have the heating mat highest up to 93 degrees. But the air inside on the warm side is only like 79
Thanks for reaching out about Sushi. Adding a heat lamp to bring the temperature the rest of the way up is recommended. This should be put on a rheostat so the temperature can be fine tuned. Good luck.

I won a turtle yesterday at a carnival, a red-eared slider, it's very tiny, I'm guessing less than a year old. I set up a tank for it and gave it a few apple dices but it isn't moving, swimming, or eating. What should I do?
Check the water, basking and ambient temperatures. Low temps can affect activity and appetite in reptiles. You may need to add a water heater and heat lamp to get the tank to proper temperature. Squirt will also need UVB lighting. Offer dark, leafy greens instead of fruit. Squirt will also need some animal protein (feeder fish, nightcrawlers, etc) as well as commercial pellets to balance out the diet.
