I have an appointment for my 2 year old, red eared slider to be seen for a respiratory infection on Monday. He is behaving normally, other than not eating his regular food sticks. He did eat shredded apple. What else can I do to take care of him unti
Maintain pristine water quality and proper temperature. You can even bump water and ambient temps about 5 F to aid in recovery. Offer some freeze dried shrimp or krill to stimulate the appetite. Small bits of fresh beef heart may also get him eating. Other protein sources include feeder fish and nightcrawlers.

Vets are open during quarantine. If you are worried and don't think it is normal then you need to have him examined by a vet. I can't really tell you what is wrong with him based on your description but I am guessing he may have an injury to his leg. He will need to see an exotics vets so you may have to drive closer to Chicago to take him there. I won a turtle yesterday at a carnival, a red-eared slider, it's very tiny, I'm guessing less than a year old. I set up a tank for it and gave it a few apple dices but it isn't moving, swimming, or eating. What should I do?
Check the water, basking and ambient temperatures. Low temps can affect activity and appetite in reptiles. You may need to add a water heater and heat lamp to get the tank to proper temperature. Squirt will also need UVB lighting. Offer dark, leafy greens instead of fruit. Squirt will also need some animal protein (feeder fish, nightcrawlers, etc) as well as commercial pellets to balance out the diet. It does appear to be of the takydromus species. These grass lizards are common and fairly easy to keep. Being adept climbers, more vertical space should be offered in an enclosure. Branches and vines can be placed for climbing. Bring reptiles, they need an external heat source and UVB lighting. Daytime temps can range from 24 C to 30 C (75-85 F). Provide a basking spot of around 35 C to 38 C (95-100 F) using a heat lamp. Aim for 70-80% humidity. Provide a shallow bowl for water. Mist the cage daily. Feed appropriately sized prey, no bigger than the space between the eyes, that have been gutload for 24 hours prior to offering. This will maximize nutritional value. Crickets, mealworms, dubia roaches, waxworms or wingless fruit flies can all be offered. Dust prey with a calcium supplement and a multivitamin supplement several times weekly. Ideally, the wound should be addressed by a veterinarian experienced in treating reptiles. You can clean it with dilute Betadine or chlorhexidine
