How would you know what type of food is best for your Budgie? Also what should I always keep a millet stick in their cage?
A commercial pelleted diet is balanced, healthy and convenient. They can be found in most pet stores or online. Quality brands include Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber and Pretty Bird. You can supplement the diet with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables, cooked grains/beans/pastas and plain rice. Budgies and other birds also enjoy some scrambled egg occasionally.

I have a 22 year old Timneh African Grey parrot. I have used Harrison's pellets medium size in the past. It has been discontinued. My parrot won't eat the fine size and drops the large size into water. I need suggestions of what else to use.

A commercial pelleted diet is most convenient and typically provides more complete nutrition. Recommended brands include Harrison's and LaFeber. A seed mix can be offered as well but limit amounts to prevent obesity. Fresh fruits and vegetables can also be offered. A simple search online will yield lists of acceptable fruits and vegetables.

It will take time. Allow him to keep eating from your hand. Use treats to coax him onto your hand and when you pet him, do not come in from above. This can be a threatening motion for birds. Approach at or below eye level and move slowly. The female will require a bit more work in getting acclimated to your hand. You can do the same though. Use treats and rewards. Keep your hand near her, but don't try to touch her, for ever increasing periods of time. Provide additional food and water bowls to prevent resource protection.

Millet spray makes a great addition to Cheeko's diet, but the main food in the cage should be a good quality seed mix for cockatiels/parakeets. This will contain many different types of seed in a balance to provide appropriate nutrition. I would have this and clean water available at all times. Small pieces of fruit can also be used as treats, and cuttlefish can make good toys to help with calcium balance.
